Florida's School Death Toll (17)- Who is responsible, culpable, negligent, etc.
February 17, 2018 | BGS

A foreseeable act of mass murder and terrorism just wiped out 17 innocent lives and ripped apart countless families. Besides the obvious psychopathic killer-Cruz, who should be held accountable for their actions and gross malfeasance?

In descending order of the most current events, take your pick(s):

1. The FBI- Notified twice they had a ticking time bomb in the shell of a man, ready to detonate at any moment. They had been made aware of his name, address, intent to kill- specifically at a school, that he had the means to kill masses, and that he was brazenly proud and demonstrative of his ability to harm others. And he had documented interaction with LEO.

2. The Broward Sheriff's Office- They had been called 39 times to Cruz's residence and dealt with him, his mother and his transgressions against his neighbors. He was a continuous threat and menace to society and should have been subject to juvenile delinquent interventions or The Baker Act if not actually arrested on multiple occasions. They failed to protect the community despite numerous opportunities to intervene.

3. The Broward County School Board - (A) In 2013, the Broward School Board instituted a sanctuary program that hides at-risk violent juvenile delinquents from law enforcement to the detriment of the rest of the school and community. It is the opposite of a Zero-tolerance policy. (B) Broward School Board for mainstreaming an abnormal child in need of specialized emotional, psychiatric and educational support to the detriment of the rest oh his classmates, teachers and school

And to the root of the problem: Nearly twenty years ago, an adoption agency placed two infants in the aged-out (Cruz) home where the parents were apt to eventually be unable to cope or die before their baby adoptees reached adulthood. This agency should reconsider their policies.

Infants are not suitable for placement in a home where an adoptive parent is over age 50 or the combined parental age exceeds 100 years old. And Nikolas Cruz has a younger brother who is struggling on his own and has been moved to a 'facility.'

Hardly falls in the same category
Do you think if his adoptive parents were 20 years younger he would have turned out differently?
Do you think 30-somethings are lining up to adopt siblings abandoned by alcoholics or drug abusers? .
Do you even realize how many grandparents are raising 2d families?
This kids revealed history and his odd facial and head shape suggests FAS/FAE, reactive attachment disorder and more
No matter what age the parents, there is precious little mental health support for children this damaged unless you are very rich ($150k residential treatment per year) or very poor ( gov foots the bill for residential placement)
There are thousands of juvenile sociopaths aka gang bangers- roaming around - many the products of teen mothers - who should be involuntarily committed to residential treatment in their childhood years

If the police had acted one of the 39 visits he might have had a record that would have prevented him from purchasing a firearm. Once again, the laws are in place. Just enforce them. No new laws necessary.

Responsible? Primarily the evil, deranged killer who(surprise!) doesn't want the death penalty! Neither did your victims, you POS! Secondarily responsible- the druggie parents who made kids, the system that has no facilities for mental cases, the school systems that insist on pretending the abnormal aren't and forcing teachers and kids to suffer with them, and parents who are PC'ed into tolerating schools not protecting their children from all of the above.

If there is a nutjob in your kids class, refuse to send them to school. If EVERYONE did that only the teachers and the problem kid would be there. Parents have more power than they have the courage to use.

Good analysis. We adopted a child when she was 3. Her birth mother used drugs. Her step father abused her. She’s doing reasonably well now but was very difficult to raise. We thought all you need is love.

He’d have had a much better chance if his dad was 40 instead of 65. He could have disciplined the boy and steered him through HS channeling him into sports.

I suspect they are Eastern European familial adoptees with a probable genetic or FAS syndrome at the root of the story.

A neighbor claimed that his mother was trying to give both boys to her daughter to raise in NY sometime after the dad died 13 years ago. Obviously, they have been more than a handful forever.

What happens after the involuntary residential treatment for juveniles?

Fine, raise the age to buy weapons to 21 BUT do you think mental cases like this will be any LESS nuts two years later? With luck, they would have been knocked off by cops before 21, but crazy is crazy at any age. Label them, restrict them, protect society.

The school board is Culpable for having the policy of “don’t tell police when you think you have a trouble maker student”. Even Colombo could figure this out and not even Mattlock could defend you.

The liberals regarded it as an act of kindness to empty the insane asylums and dump severely psychotic people onto the streets of our cities.

Perhaps it’s time consider reopening these facilities and get these people into a safer space with adequate treatment?

Too bad the police did not act during one of the 39 visits. The mom probably backed down and refused to press charges against him. The deputies failed to act on her behalf. They were too nice to him and did not enforce the law.

Waaaay past time. Facilities- or force the kindhearted officials to take the mental cases home with them. Walk the walk. I’m glad to hear the younger brother has been rounded up before he, too, attacks.Hope it’s true.
