Senators Strike Bipartisan Deal on Immigration Despite Veto Threat
NY Times ^ | Feb. 14, 2018 | SHERYL GAY STOLBERG and MICHAEL D. SHEAR

A broad bipartisan group of senators reached agreement Wednesday on a narrow rewrite of the nation’s immigration laws that would bolster border security and resolve the fate of the so-called Dreamers, even as President Trump suggested he would veto any plan that does not adhere to his harder-line approach.

Their compromise legislation sets up a clash pitting the political center of the Senate against Mr. Trump and the Republican congressional leadership. Senators in both parties have been racing against a self-imposed end-of-the-week deadline to write legislation that could win wide support by increasing border security while at the same time offering a path to citizenship for young immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children.

Members of the bipartisan group, which calls itself the Common Sense Coalition, said their deal does just that. They were working Wednesday evening to determine whether their bill could garner the 60 votes necessary to break a filibuster.

A different Repub Senator was saying that they needed to come up with something the President will sign - it’s obvious he knows Trump won’t sign the crap they came up with.

When the Republicans sent a budget to Trump with no wall funding that was a their Brutus and the long knives moment, right there.

“including construction of the president’s proposed wall at the Mexican border, over a 10-year period — not immediately, as Mr. Trump demands.”

No reason to stretch it out, except to prevent it from actually happening. The proponents clearly want to perpetuate illegal border crossings.
>

Easy ‘fix’ w/ one line:

Make the rest of the bill contingent upon the finalization of tho last panel put into place and signed-off upon.

IE: Don’t start any ‘timer’ until the wall is DONE *FIRST*

I know, I know, it’d never see the light of day w/ THAT amendment :P

Oppose any deal that trades DACA for enforcement only. Any DACA deal must include at a minimum and done first. HR 4760 should be the immigration bill that Repub’s support with amnesty for 700K DACA people take it are leave it

1.an immediate end to Chain Migration
2. A requirement for all employers to use E-Verify
3. Merit based immigration.
4. Complete funding to build the wall
5 No amnesty for 700,000 renewal 3 yr work permits
6. End the visa lottery
7. Extra border agents,
8. Crack down on sanctuary cities and asylum abuse

*Bottom line is no damn amnesty for anyone

doubtful this willl even make it to the Senate or House floor for a vote ...

this is nothing more than the old “gang-of-eight” type of sellout by Kommie and GOPe Trump-hating, open-border sellouts in the Senate.

Here’s a novel idea: The 12 year clock on the “path to citizenship” for dreamers doesn’t start until (a)the wall is complete, (b)chain migration, save for immediate family, is ended and (c)the stupid “diversity lottery” (which de facto favors immigration from $#*+hole countries) is ended.

Virtually every other country in the world uses their military to protect their borders. Why not America?

(Suspect you may be asking rhetorically.)

Short answer: The US has used its military (or those it has commissioned) to protect its borders from both invaders and criminals - see for example American Revolution and Civil War privateers and the history of US Coast Guard.

After that, the answers become more complicated and depend on the will of our government and its current political agenda.

At perhaps the most effective point, border control would provide a sniper team, whether military or LE, at various locations to take out the apparent male leader of any group attempting an illegal crossing. Women and children would be fed, given medical attention if necessary and immediately returned along with a bill to the Mexican government.

These guys are supposedly the “center”? So let them get together enough votes to override.

I hope this DACA “deal” doesn’t allow DACA babies in like the Florida School shooter!

If it prevents even ONE school shooting, it is WELL WORTH deporting ALL the DACA “kids”!!
