Jenye “Viki” Knox served Union High School since 2000 as a teacher and faculty adviser for the students’ Bible study group. She began teaching handicapped students 28 years ago.
An ordained minister, Knox communicated her opinion openly on social media.
In 2013, Knox sued the district for violating her right to free speech and her right to the free expression of her religion. She wanted her job back with back pay and the admission that she was within her rights under the Constitution to express her views on Facebook.
The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey admitted that though they did not approve of Knox’s Christian beliefs, “her beliefs and comments are protected by the First Amendment.”
Eventually, the schoolteacher reached a confidential settlement on the tenure issue. The board used that against her, arguing her lawsuit was moot because she settled on the tenure issue, but in 2015 U.S. District Court Judge Kevin McNulty allowed her suit to go forward.

It looks like New Jersey’s leftist are against helping handicapped children since this teacher’s teaching certificate was suspended for 3 years.
Way to go, leftist assholes. You just punished these handicapped children by taking away the one person who wanted to help them make their way through life.
Liberalism/progressivism/Marxist is a form of extreme mental illness and all those who enforce it in schools should be identified as such and fought by whatever legal means are available.
In fact, the parents of Jenye Knox’s handicapped students should SUE the crap out of the school administrators/Board/system for “depriving their children of their right to life, liberty AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS”, the latter in this case being to get as good an education as their handicap allows so that they can be productive citizens in the outside world.
What the hell did Crispy Cream Christie do about this crap during his administration? I’m sure the new leftist imbecile governor doesn’t give a damn just on general principles.
No wonder New Jersey is still considered one of the most corrupt, backwards, dangerous states in the country.

The WHOLE POINT of tenure was to PROTECT teachers and professors who have an unpopular view. It started decades ago when people would get fired for being Communists. I guess now that Communists run the show, there’s no need for those protections.
Reminds me of a quote that was attributed to Lenin when he was asked why he no longer supports free speech. He said “It’s true that I used to support free speech, but that was when I was in the opposition”.

Social media only makes the demonization of Christianity happen more quickly. Her views were bound to become public eventually, and she would have been treat just the same.
After all, the Atlanta fire chief didn't tout his beliefs, he was just the author of a book which questioned homosexuality in 2 pages, and he was out.
Possibly. But then you lose the publicly self-inflicted aspect of it.
Today alone we have three instances of people doing themselves in on Facebook - this one, a teacher in Florida fired after posting pictures of her same sex marriage, and a waitress who complained on Facebook after getting stiffed on a tip on a food order for a megachurch. That's a big reason why if you are going to post anything that comes into your head then make sure you don't have your employer on your Facebook profile.
I originally stated I believed it was mixed; in a previous lifetime I used to go to a great indoor flea market there years ago, and while the clientele was mixed you passed some nice houses to get there. Neighboring Elizabeth, on the other hand, is probably the Hispanic capital of Union County.
One thing that is changing here in NJ is that the black population doesn’t seem to be growing, while the Hispanic population is exploding; it was a large factor in Cory Booker finally unseating Sharpe James in Newark.
