San Francisco Bay Area Experiences Mass Exodus Of Residents

SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) – The number of people packing up and moving out of the Bay Area just hit its highest level in more than a decade.

Carole Dabak spent 40 years living in San Jose and now she’s part of the mass exodus that is showing no signs of slowing down.

The retired engineer’s packing up and calling it quits about to move to the state of Tennessee.

“I loved it here when I first got here. I really loved it here. But it’s just not the same,” Dabak said.

Of course people come and go from the Bay Area all the time, but for the first time in a long time, more people are leaving the Bay Area than are coming in. And the number one place in the country for out-migration is now, right here.

Russell Hancock with Joint Venture Silicon Valley said, “Silicon Valley has been this place that is growing. And it was mostly due to people relocating here and relocating from other parts of the world. That’s changing.”

Joint Venture Silicon Valley’s own study of the out-migration says workers are moving to Sacramento, Austin, and Portland due to a number of factors. But topping the list is the high cost of housing.

“You can’t even contemplate getting into the housing market here,” Hancock said. “And I don’t mean just service workers, but highly skilled professionals. The tech elite are having a hard time affording reasonable housing in Silicon Valley. That makes it difficult for employers to recruit.”

Operators of a San Jose U-Haul business say one of their biggest problems is getting its rental moving vans back because so many are on a one-way ticket out of town.

Dabak cites crowding, crime and politics as the reasons for her own exodus.

“We don’t like it here anymore. You know, we don’t like this sanctuary state status and just the politics,” she said.

She plans to sell her home for about $1 million, buy a much larger place near Nashville for less than half that and retire closer to family and friends.

By and large, the ones that are leaving are not the problem. The gibbsmedats and the illegals are in for as long as their free ride continues, which isn't much longer, cuz other people's money is running out. And with the new Tax Bill, a lot more people here are going to be leaving because they can no longer write off their huge property tax bills, and they are they ones who haven't been here all their lives and owned the same home for 30 years. The young couple from San Jose who bought the home across the road from us three years ago, have a $22,000 property tax bill, triple what ours is for a similarly valued home. So unless they have really good jobs ( both of them work) I am wondering how they're going to manage to stay.

“San Fran is pretty.”

It’s the prettiest city in America, bar none.

Only Seattle can see its feet. Otherwise, no other city is in the same class.

Food
Arts
Sports
Science
Technology
Beauty

At the pinnacle of all 6.

And there are hundreds on this forum that will credit it with nothing.

Mostly because they are just as emotionally driven as the homos in San Francisco.

“This was Reagan country once, even if alleged ‘conservatives’ here and elsewhere have given up”

I was born and raised in this state.

I’ll stay and fight to my last breath.

“There are a lot of vacant homes, but they’re not on the market. Absentee owners. It’s offshore money, largely China, that is driving insane residential real estate prices on the west coast, not any actual domestic supply and demand. When China goes boom economically, west coast residential real estate will too.”

Insane prices compared to what? Tokyo, London, NYC ??

Homos can’t reproduce is what San Fag has so few kids, not that the pedophiles don’t want kids around.

“Are there lotsa vacant unsold homes on the market, with multiple price reductions?”

Absolutely not. Prices continue to soar.

You bring back great memories for me. Born in San Mateo, family still in SF. Just broke up after a year relationship with a woman, she lives in Mill Valley, I live in Maine where she is originally from. I LOVED being back out there but the people and their disgusting views no matter where I went was so engulfing and smothering. I felt like the enemy and could not speak freely and any matter unless it was to agree with them. They are definitely the center of hypocrisy.

The left have destroyed a glorious state and many of its fine people.

The worst of the worst will be left...from SF south to San Diego. I split from LA area in 7/17 (was only there 3 years). In that time I learned a lot about how messed up an ‘American’ culture can get.

Moved to Alabama. Love it here. Southern hospitality is really refreshing. BUT....it tapers down some when you get on the freeways....bad influence of stock car racing at Taledega IMHO.

“Trump did receive almost four million votes in Calif.”

There are more conservatives in CA than almost any other state in the Union.

4,483,810 people voted for Trump in CA.

The driver of the tow truck that rescued the hapless motorist must have had a good chuckle with that one.

Should have towed it away from the back end, after all the driver knows best yes?

A more general comment: I have no idea why some people think driving compact cars in serious inclement weather is a good idea. I passed someone a couple months ago driving a Miata in an ice storm. And a couple years ago someone was vainly trying to control a BMW on a road after a foot of snow had fallen, problem was the car was rear wheel drive!

Some people man.
