Two Amtrak personnel were killed and over 100 others were injured when an Amtrak passenger train collided with a parked CSX freight train early Sunday just outside the capital of South Carolina, officials said.

"It appears to me that the CSX was on the track it was supposed to be on, a switch track," the governor said. "They weren't supposed to be meeting like that, that's what it appears to me."
From this quote and the pictures, it looks like the Amtrak train was mistakenly switched onto another track where the CSX train was sitting, possibly unattended, and they collided head on with the Amtrak going about 49 mph.
Their vaunted automated train control is going to fix this? Yeah right, it probably caused this.
What?! No Republicans on the trains?
Get Schumer to stop holding up the appointment of Trumps NTSB director.
Amtrak is a government-run “business”. It figures... I can’t wait for the exciting wrecks we’ll on elon musk’s “tube”.
The primary way I financed the first three years of my college education, 1961-1962, 1962-1963, and 1963-1964, was by being a locomotive fireman on a major midwestern railroad, back when railroads were still carrying the major portion of inter-city passenger traffic vs. the air lines. We did not have carnage like Amtrak’s been experiencing in the last few years, especially insane things like passenger trains derailing due to massively excessive speeding.
And we want to have driverless cars and trucks?
Relying on computers is always iffy
Schumer’s actions have absolutely nothing to do with this incident.
Some of the high-speed trains have had spectacular accident.
Exactly! When will we learn the lesson HAL provided us from “2001 Space Odyssey?”
>>>Schumers actions have absolutely nothing to do with this incident<<<
You are correct. If he was a Republican holding up the Appointment, THEN it would have everything to do with this incident.
Yes they do. Theres been a significant rise in problems with switches, level crossings and operator error in the last couple of years. But the prevention of these things requires coordination (since our rail system is kind of a patchwork of independent freight companies, Amtrak, and a few other players). This is actually one of the things that a federal agency can be useful for doing.
Im sure, under Obama, the NTSB did only what the unions would let it do. Trump proposed his candidate, Schumer has stalled the Senate on approving, and the result is that the agency is without policy and coordination.
So yes, Schumers actions have a lot to do with this incident.
Government can’t manage a 2-car funeral, let alone run trains or health care or education. Anyone who boards a government train is braver than I am.
Deus ex machina
Unfortunately
Good point.
