The House Intelligence Committee memo is pretty simple. It should not have been classified and thus far withheld from the public. In fact, far more information now needs to be released. . . snip
If all this is not a scandal then the following protocols are now considered permissible in American electoral practice and constitutional jurisprudence: An incumbent administration can freely use the FBI and the DOJ to favor one side in a presidential election, by buying its opposition research against the other candidate, using its own prestige to authenticate such a third-party oppositional dossier, and then using it to obtain court-ordered wiretaps on American citizens employed by a candidates campaign and do so by deliberately misleading the court about the origins and authors of the dossier that was used to obtain the warrants. . . snip
Many of the those with possible criminal exposure have already either been fired (Comey, McCabe), reassigned (Page, Strzok, Ohr), or are considered sacrosanct (Obama, Loretta Lynch, etc.). Rod Rosensteins fate is, for now, largely a political matter, and only later a legal one.

Read the entire article as, among other things, it places this current scandal into the context of other Presidential level scandals. Enjoy.
It would be safe to say that the once #NeverTrump VDH has taken the red pill and is back among us. Thank God, because we sure missed him when he was gone.

Yes, he can be rough around the edges, think out of the box politically and (mainly) disregards the advice of the insiders (read GOP-e and self-appointed high poo bahs of society) but he does get the job done.
Simply put, I see President Trump as “our guy” and the remaining never-Trumper's and the Resistance can go suck an egg.
Just how expansively did the FBI interpret the surveillance authorized by the FISA order?
I'd like to see the wording of the warrant. Was it narrowly focused on Carter Page, or did the FBI use it to bootstrap looking at people in contact with Carter Page and so on?
In legitimate terrorism cases, as opposed to this type of spying on political opponents, presumably looking at entire networks of people in communication with surveillance targets would be important.
Mueller will try to make a case against President Trump for something. He may even procure an actual indictment from a DC grand jury against a sitting president, so that the Democrats/MSM can make hay against Trump if he challenges the constitutionality of indicting a sitting president.
I’m guessing the delay in the sentencing of Mike Flynn is to postpone the sentencing until after Trump is interviewed by Mueller.
That way, they can bring the transcript of the interview with Trump to Flynn to read in order to encourage Flynn to contradict something Trump said, on the offer of reduced sentencing.
And Sean Hzannity and Sara Carter wre saying tonight that their sources say this is only about 10-15 percent of what will be released.
Tick...tick...BOOM!
The other way it could go is Mueller delivers a secret file of his findings with respect to Trump’s culpability for crimes to Congress. Obviously there would not be an impeachment vote on it while the GOP controls the House (but the GOPe could use it as leverage against Trump to get amnesty, keep the ‘free’ trade agreements in place and kill the Wall).
That way the Democrats could leak stuff about Trump said to be from the secret file (or just make it up) with the help of the lunatic MSM in the run-up to the 2018 election. Lots of opportunity for them to create October Surprises from the secret file.
Nah....the Flynn sentencing delay was mutual with Flynn lawyers agreeing. This might be about the IG report and word that McCabe had agents changed the testimonies of people being interviewed...could be Flynn case wrapped up in that and other things falling apart for Mueller coming his way
I didn’t say it wasn’t mutual. Flynn’s lawyers are trying to get the least sentencing possible for Flynn.
I doubt he will be sentenced until Mueller decides there is no possible further usefulness for Flynn in making a case against Trump.
I doubt very much that the delay is related to the report that McCabe ordered agents to change 302s.
Outstanding summation by VDH.
At some point, Mueller is going to have to release a public report.
It seems to be becoming accepted wisdom that Mueller has shifted gears from collusion, (whatever that means) to obstruction. If all he comes up with is an obstruction charge for referral to Congress, he has a new problem. Trump’s popularity is rising at a good clip. In the end, impeachment is political.
Mueller is under a standing court order to turn any information over to Flynn that might be indicative of his guilt or play a role in his sentencing. I suspect Flynn’s sentencing was delayed because the release of the Nunes memo now gives Flynn the grounds to demand access to any information related to his FISA surveillance.
This is VDHs second truly great article on the topic this week.
I lived in Southern California in the very early 1970’s and read with sadness his many articles talking about the decline of the Golden State.
In other words, Comey was a very effective high level insider and fixer for the Democrats in general and the Clintons in particular.
For his services, Comey was awarded a lucrative sweetheart position at Lockheed Martin which netted him about seven million dollars over a few short years
No doubt Comey, Rosenstein and Strzok were drooling at the thought of the rewards they would receive if they managed to get Hillary Clinton elected President, fulfilling her life's dream and ambition
