Letter and Tweet at link.
Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are calling for an immediate meeting with officials from the FBI and Department of Justice over the claims made in the memo drafted by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).
The letter, spearheaded by ranking member Rep. Jerrod Nadler (D-N.Y.), is directed to committee chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.). In it, Nadler asks Goodlatte to arrange a meeting with FBI Director Christopher Wray and other representatives from the Justice Department to examine the "talking points" that he says Republicans are using to "discredit the work of the FBI and Special Counsel Robert Mueller."
"It is imperative that we hear directly from these officials about the security and law enforcement implications of making this information public," Nadler wrote.
"It is also important that we hear about any inaccuracies or key omissions from the Nunes document," he added.
President Trump plans to release a memo drafted by Nunes purporting to detail surveillance abuses by the federal government to be made public despite warnings from the FBI that the document contains inaccurate statements and omissions of fact.
The president is OK with it, a White House official told reporters traveling with Trump aboard Air Force One. I doubt there will be any redactions. Its in Congresss hands after that.
As expressed during our initial review, we have grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memos accuracy," the bureau said in a statement.
Nunes has dismissed the FBI's criticism and accused the bureau of running a counterintelligence operation based off of unverified information during the 2016 election.
"Its clear that top officials used unverified information in a court document to fuel a counterintelligence investigation during an American political campaign. Once the truth gets out, we can begin taking steps to ensure our intelligence agencies and courts are never misused like this again, Nunes said.
You can smell their fear.
No.
Release it.
If it much ado about nothing, why are they fighting so hard to block it?
No wonder this is explosive stuff.
they be stepping and fetching like their hair in on fire and their asses is a catching.
Alan Dershowitz commented last night on Laura’s show that it used to be in the past that Democrats were wanting full disclosure and accountability of Govt agencies like the FBI.
Now its just the opposite since they got something to hide.
They are going to throw the FBI under the bus and hope it all dies there.
This goes all the way to the top of the Obama Admin plus to the top of the MSM executive offices.
This could shake this country to its foundations.
And its about time.
What on earth....
More than ever, I want to know what is in this document especially since these public servants work at the citizens’ behest, not the other way.
FBI, DOJ and Dems... They’re all birds of a feather; A bunch of soulless drones, corrupt to their very core.
Whole lotta loose bowels on Capitol Hill tonight.
Wikileaks start leaking. Stop stalling already.
Agreed, I’m sure it goes higher than using the dossier for a FISA warrant.
I think it is a good request. If the FBI, including the FBI Director denies everything in the memo, what value will it have? So we need them to go on record on it...
Thank God for President Trump.
L
Because....Truuuuuump, you dummy!!
Support Free Republic, Folks!
I haven’t noticed the FBI or DOJ offering to fill in the “omissions” so that the memo will not be misleading.
