Pittsburgh and Philadelphia have always had a kind of love/hate relationship. We're joined by history and boundaries, but divided by more than 300 miles on the turnpike and more than 1 million people in population (we admit it, Philly's bigger).
We might poke fun at the weird accents and food tastes of the other, but just like brothers, we'll defend those same idiosyncrasies against all outsiders.
And this weekend, most Pittsburghers will take up arms to root on the Philadelphia Eagles against the much-despised New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.
But there's more to love about the City of Brotherly Love than a green-tinged football team that we hope topples the reigning NFL champs. The Trib staff got together to point out some of our sister city's good points.
Don't worry,

The reason most patriotic Pennsylvanians despise the Philadelphia area with a purple passion is really quite simple: Without Philadelphia, our fair Commonwealth has enough patriotic people that we could easily outvote the goofball left in places like Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Scranton and, essentially, we would be Kentucky rather than a left leaner narrowly won by Trump.
Take just Philadelphia out completely, and the state of PA would be RED in every election.
This weekend, there is going to be a line for people to jump off the George Washington Bridge.
BOYCOTT THE SUPER BOWL!!!
Philadelphia ALWAYS provides a “PLUS” margin of 500,000 votes for the D’s in every Presidential election. That’s 500,000 vote plus margin that has to be erased throughout the rest of the state.
PA is Philadelphia on the East, Pittsburgh on the West with Alabama in the middle.
I wonder now how true to their namesake the New England “Patriots” actually are.
Is Philly a typical Dem sh-thole?
(Never been there).
But if I were going to follow the Superbowl, I’d be rooting for the Eagle - they’re NFC and I’m not a fan of same ol’, same ol’ dynasty dominated games - same as with the Cowboys back in their heyday. Like to see new faces.
Any body loving anything to do with the current NFL is an embarrassment to America and things American
What, exactly, is a “Super Bowl”?
Maybe a serving size bigger than “large?
Think I’ll order a super bowl of feces for Roger Goodell to eat while he barks at the moon.
Well piss on you too!
If you don’t like the NFL stay the hell off the NFL threads. It’s an easy concept. No one here want’s to hear your “Look at me, I’m better than you cause I hate the NFL” crap.
Good parts/bad parts. Like most cities. Have a relative in the burbs. Been several times.
“PA is Philadelphia on the East, Pittsburgh on the West with Alabama in the middle.”
A common misconception, and a derivative of the left’s flyover country perspective.
Philly and Pitt are holes. But the burbs surrounding them are quite nice, and full of successful, intelligent, conservative people.
“If you dont like the NFL stay the hell off the NFL threads.”
Who died and put you in charge? Little Hitler.
If you don’t like being shamed for supporting the NFL, stay off of conservative websites.
That there, my FRiend, was the correct response!
