Top FBI officials were aware for at least a month before alerting Congress that emails potentially related to an investigation of Hillary Clinton had emerged during a key stretch of the 2016 presidential campaign, according to text messages reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe had learned about the thousands of emails by Sept. 28, 2016, and Director James Comey informed Congress about them on Oct. 28, 11 days before the presidential election, the messages show. Mr. Comey later said nothing in the new emails had changed the Federal Bureau of Investigations decision that Mrs. Clinton had committed no prosecutable offenses.
That lag is one focus of an investigation by the Justice Departments inspector general, or in-house watchdog, into a variety of FBI actions in advance of the 2016 election, according to people familiar with the matter. Mr. McCabe stepped down this week, and FBI Director Christopher Wray in a note to bureau employees announcing Mr. McCabes departure also said he wouldnt comment on the inspector-general probe. The Washington Post first reported the inspector generals interest in the time lag.
Mr. McCabe has declined to comment on his departure and the inspector-general investigation.

In an email to the bureaus 35,000 employees on Monday, Mr. Way said: It would be inappropriate for me to comment on specific aspects of the IGs review right now.

FBI, Finally Being Investigated.....
Oh, by the way, wasn’t Seth Rich on his way to being interviewed by the FBI in the middle of the night when he was ‘mysteriously’ murdered?
Right, because it was just more of the same criminal activity.
Biggest scandal in American history and it's treated like some blurb on the back page of some small-town newspaper.
Way to be the guy who killed the FBI, Comey.
Honest people want the truth told.
Full stop.
Calculating careerists kinda, sorta, maybe want the truth told, but worry if they make a move it might end up hurting them. “Gotta think about me”, they explain.
Disgusting.
Start firing.
FBI needs to be shut down.
Yes, I’m stunned by how little media coverage there is. I lived through the Nixon Watergate hearings and it was 24/7....well before the imternet or any of the other good stuff we have now.
It’s like the Benghazi debacle just before the 2012 election or Bill Clinton’s crimes.
“We’ll just have to win.”
But they lost, so no sweeping these crooks’ crimes under the carpet any longer.
“FBI Officials Knew of New Clinton Emails Weeks Before Alerting Congress”
Yep. ABout 52 weeks.
That wasn't my impression early on. Much of the misbehavior was tracked to the Committee to Re-elect the President; or CREEP. (What a fitting name, no?) Despite what little coverage there was, Nixon was re-elected.
At some point I realized that I was hearing the term "Watergate" frequently but without really understanding it.
When I did start following it closely I had to turn to the back pages of the newspaper to find mention of it and that situation continued for many months. I can't remember what particular development really brought it to the front page. It took quite a while for the scandal to reach Nixon.
I was 12 years old but my recollection is John Dean’s testimony before the Sam Irvin Commitee blew Watergate sky high.
If they have even a second of trouble making that decision then they lack the character required to do the job.
“Well, we’ll just have to WIN, then..” (before WJC’s re-election):
EXACTLY what I recalled yesterday...!
Well played.
Heck, FReepers knew weeks before. Remember all the posts talking about local police leaking about Weiner’s lap top? They we’re being stymied by FBI and were trying to get the info out.
The accounts of the Seth Rich murder always say, “nothing was taken” (from him).
How do they know that if they don’t know what he was carrying?
