Florida ranks dead last when it comes to rating the best states in the nation. Michigan ranks No. 1, the very best state in the union.
Let that sink in for awhile. Michigan, the state that gave us the Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent and Kid Rock (the poor mans Ted Nugent), is 49 states better than Florida.
Thrillists Definitive and Final Ranking of All 50 States list ranked the states based on everything. Specifically, the states contributions to America, like inventions, food and drink, somewhat productive famous people, and unique physical beauty, among other things.

“I live here and its terrible. All you northerners should stay up there. ;-)”
Ha, I have 10 acres in Okeechobee, and will be moving down there in about 3 years.
Can’t wait. Sick of shoveling snow, slipping on ice, and spending 30 minutes chiseling out my windshield before going to work.
Does California have Manatees?
Joy Behar doesnt count.
California probably had Manatees but they all ended up stuck in the LaBrea Tar Pits or losing weight and moving to Hollywood to be Yorkies.
Except for their spectacular white sand Gulf beaches.
I’ll take it over the white snow we’re inflicted with any day of the week.
I suppose there’s KC and the Sunshine Band.
I beg to differ.
CONNECTICUT ranks 50th in most surveys; in stuff people care about.
This study is bogus.
Gators and hurricanes.
No thanks.
Never mind Disney taking over and bringing in all kinds of millions of tourists.
Big celebs like Daniel Tosh and Kimbo Slice.
All joking aside, Floriduh can’t be worse than California in an overall sense.
We just got Publix here in VA. Are the subs really that good? Is there one you’d suggest?
Detroit is not Michigan. Michigan is quite a beautiful state; gorgeous lakes, rivers, woods, very green. The Great Lakes are every bit as beautiful as the ocean minus the salt. The Upper is very rugged and a world to itself. Yes, it get cold in the winter, but you have to embrace it and enjoy; snowmobiles, skiing, etc. Its also a time to slow down and enjoy a more quieter existence.
It’s not for everyone, but the gulf coast can be a wonderful place to visit. I’d also like to visit the Keys.
crap! so i DON”T want to retire there?
Michigan?
First time I ever heard that one.
At last! Detroit is a paradise!!!
My family has been in Florida since at least the 1700s and that is several different branches. I love the state but will admit there are things we miss.
I would love to have mountains, even the ones in Georgia would be fine. I have never been there but my Brother worked two Summers in upstate New York and said the place is beautiful.
On the plus side we have numerous springs with perfectly clear water and beautiful rivers or creeks running off from them. Also beautiful lakes.
Florida produces the highest percentage of high school players going to college on football scholarships, no other state is close.
According to a group of Sons of Confederate Veterans I met in Georgia, Robert E. Lee preferred Florida troops to all others.
Maryland is far from last. They are number 1 in education. Salaries are great. I moved to Florida and agree with parts of the reasons its at the bottom. Education sucks for anyone not in college.
Oh, it’s very nice in many ways. But I’ve never been interested in “the beach” TM.
Just another place I’d rather not live.
The ratings referred to are from Thrillist, a men’s digital lifestyle website. As a lifelong Floridian of the male persuasion, I say that Florida’s beaches put it securely in the top five — no matter what idiot pansies at Thrillist and the Miami Herald say.
We retired here from the Dallas area. Yes, Texas is great but we are 1 mile from Charlotte Harbor, 30 minutes from the Gulf Beaches, and a cold snap lasts 2 days. And the cost of living is far lower (taxes, utilities).
Bobby and Jung Finch lived down the block from me.
I think they helped KC producing or something.
Nice guys, easy going
