Gun Control Bumper Sticker Part of Criminal Complaint
Ammoland ^ | 23 January, 2017 | Dean Weingarten

An auto mishap morphed into a defensive shooting in Rochester, Minnesota on Sunday, January 14th, a little after 8 a.m.

A car driven by 17 year old Muhammed Rahim, with another 17-year-old male and two teenage girls in the car, spun out of control and crashed into the side of the road in slippery conditions.

A car driven by 25 year old Alexander Weiss managed to avoid the out of control vehicle. He pulled to the side of the road to see if the people in the crashed vehicle needed assistance. Muhammed then backed up the crashed vehicle and hit Weiss' vehicle.

Weiss got out. So did Muhammed and the other male occupant. They approached Weiss and threatened him.

Weiss, a carry permit holder, retrieved a pistol and called the police. The confrontation escalated and Weiss shot Muhammed.

Two on one makes it a disparity of force situation. It is hard to know how this will play out in the courts.  The statement of probable cause shows Weiss did not just “draw and fire”.  Muhammed approached within inches of Weiss while the firearm was displayed.

Muhammed dared Weiss to fire. Weiss says that Muhammed attempted to grab his pistol.  Muhammed's passenger said they never touched Weiss. The statements are not necessarily contradictory.

The police arrived on the scene and arrested Weiss. The police officer included the fact that Weiss had a bumper sticker on his vehicle that said “GUN CONTROL IS HITTING YOUR TARGET”  in the statement of probable cause.

But just as a personal rule, I put no stickers on my car.

Exactly. Nor do I. Why invite someone to deface your car with a key, or worse.

No bumper stickers, no lawn signs, no Gadsden flag on the flag pole...nothing that would act as a bulls-eye for any unhinged miscreant. It will stay that way until it is legal in my state to shoot such individuals.

This situation seems to combine a citizen using both the First Amendment and also the Second Amendment.

Probably will see significant jail time. Because tyranny.

They do have one thing in common, though.

They’re both dead................

This is why a retired police detective friend advised me not to get a concealed carry permit. If I shoot a perp through the head or heart and the court asks why I didn’t shoot him in the leg, I could reply that I was aiming at his leg. LOL. Made a lot of sense to me.

But just as a personal rule, I put no stickers on my car. I am incognito.

That's the ticket! Keep a low profile! Let all the crazy liberals plaster their bumperstickers all over the observable universe and thus create the appearance that they are in the majority, that their views prevail, that they can dominate public discourse.

Regards,

On my truck is a, "Guns Save Lives," sticker right by my Veteran license plate, and this on my rear window:

My Jeep, on the other hand....

Yeah. I'd be going to the klink!

If that sticker was on the police car of an officer who shot someone, everyone here would already be talking about prison rape and lawsuits.

The only thing I have is a 4" American flag magnet in the center of my tailgate. I placed it on one 4th of July season and left it on because of the National anthem NFL BS.

I do not want to get followed home by some lunatic that got triggered by a bumper sticker.

I love that one particular car, usually around 15 years old, obviously insured to the hilt, entire rear end including window plastered with various wisdom and alternative rock bands next to the state college parking sticker.

No matter what kind of sticker you put on your vehicle, you’re bound to antagonize some portion of the population, so I have never put a sticker of any kind on my pickup truck.

However, several years ago I put a Disabled Veteran license plate on my pickup truck and immediately noticed a change in traffic around me. Vehicles will now come and tailgate me inches from my bumper and blow their horn if they think I’m not driving fast enough, and there are those who will now cut me off in traffic. This never happened before I put the DV plate on my truck, and I think they’re probably doing it just because they assume I won’t chase them down and kick their asses now that they see I’m disabled.

To answer your question, it has nothing to do with what happened.

For whatever hotshot young prosecutor on the local DA's office gets the case, you can bet that there will most certainly be an attempt to use it as evidence against young Mr. Weiss, unless the judge does the right thing and disallows it as evidence. Maybe, maybe not.

Other salient but really meaningless items: "Magnum caliber", "Hollow points", "High capacity", yes, even "Reloads".

Anything the judge lets them use, they will use.

Chris37 has it right. While slogans like this are amusing if not shopworn, they're a liability after the fact. It's far better to go thru life as a "gray man".

Here in my hometown I know of a certain contractor who had a sign posted on his truck and trailer that was to the effect of "Attention Thieves, If I catch you stealing from me I just might shoot you."

Fortunately someone appealed to his better side and persuaded him to take it down.

Thanks for posting this, BTW, it might help someone out tomorrow.

My magnetic bumper sticker that is on all the time says, GOD IS LOVE. Not many can disagree with that.

My old beat up farm pickup had an NRA sticker on the back window of the cab. Just above it was another sticker that said “Arms are for Hugging.”

Living in RedNeck, Pennsyltucky some dude with an attitude approached me looking for a fight, asking about the hugging sticker and the NRA sticker.

I just looked at him and asked, “Haven’t you ever hugged your gun?” It was like I threw a bucket of cold water on him.

We both laughed and exchanged well wishes.

Actually, I've heard that a properly placed leg wound can be just as lethal.
You can tell the court, "I was being merciful with an instant death rather than let the punk suffer the bleed out for forty seconds."

My neighbor proudly put a big blue and white PENN STATE bumper sticker on his truck when his daughter started there.

I had one just like it so I cut it in half and placed it right on top of his in reverse sequence. It said “STATE PENN.”

He didn’t think it was funny.

My brother has been legally blind for the past 40 years. He loves to hunt and is a pretty good shot.

He put a sign on the farm that said, “This property protected by Smith & Wesson. I joked that we needed to change it to “BEWARE OF BLIND MAN WITH GUN”

That could also include comments made on threads like this, after they seize your cellphone and laptop. Just something to think about.

In truth, the bumper sticker has nothing to do with it. However, the police and courts and probably the juries can be convinced that the bumper sticker indicates a pre- conditioned mind set of the owner of the car. That is “Murder One.” He could be plainly advertising that he is ready to use a gun.
Worse yet is the little sign that I have seen near entries to some neighbors’ houses. Small but not too subtle, “WE DON’T CALL 911!”
Cute but not a good idea. If the guy had a CWL, he didn’t pay attention in class....
