They would only have Metadata. Not actual messages.

Yep.
Also if this was a true glitch then they should have trouble tickets and resolution logs work proper dates. And others would be impacted.

Even the telcoms delete them after a time - they don't have infinite storage capacity. What NSA's policy is, though, is classified beyond anyone's capability to state in public. And they do have durn near infinite storage capacity. And text compresses to nearly nothing.
How hard would it be technically to capture this stuff? Easy. Do they? Don't know.
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
Sure they have them.... If they wanted to find my old text messages long after I’ve deleted them, I’m sure they could. The FBI though has tools at their disposal that I don’t have as far as making things disappear. And I think it also likely that there are just as many corrupt individuals in upper echelons of the NSA as there is in the FBI.... Just sayin’.

Why is Sessions playing dumb about this, issuing a statement that he will make every effort to find technical assistance to recover the lost emails? It sounds as though he is attempting to mislead the American people.

I hope they have already done this.
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
Well here’s the obvious question. Did Strzok and Page delete their texts? If so, why? They were presumably government phones.
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
Duh....
I wrote extensively on this during Snowden...

They would only have Metadata. Not actual messages. Why would they retain the data that describes the data, but not the data?
