President Donald Trump has signed into law a bill that ends the government shutdown, and provides congressional negotiators with additional time to hammer out an immigration reform package capable of passing both the House and Senate.
Hundreds of thousands of federal employees are expected to return to work on Tuesday morning, after spending the day Monday on furlough.
The bill funds the government for 17 days, and it funds the popular CHIP children's insurance program for six years. It does not include a permanent fix for the Obama-era DACA program, which Senate Democrats had originally demanded.

MAGA
I'm sorry, but this program should have only been funded through the end of the calendar year and then turned over to the states. This is a Clinton-era program to get the foot in the door for universal healthcare after Hillarycare was soundly defeated. Typical Dem maneuver, propose something less statist and targeted, and anyone who opposes it is against the children or whatever interest group benefits from it.
Still, giving in on CHIP is still much better than giving in on DACA.
BFD. 17 days too the next “CRISIS”.
Agreed. This was a cave by the Pubs, giving away one of their valuable bargaining chips for nothing.
The only fix is to end the travesty of civilization called DACA and deport those illegal aliens. It is a fundamental principle of law that one does not benefit from crime. The so called "Dreamers" are befitting from the crime of invading our country. Their existence in the United States makes them thieves and enemies of the state.
Depart all illegal aliens now!
Signs it and adds a P.S. Democrats Caved big time
No more CRs after this. Either pass a regular budget (preferably a fiscal year that's identical to the calendar) with specific cuts of lib programs and full funding of Trump's agenda or let the government stay shutdown.
Well we are gonna go through this all again. Uniparty is gonna keep doing this again and again, so that all these shutdowns are gonna be put, on trump and the repubs and talk of mismanagement. Uniparty media already on board for spin doctoring.
What do you mean "giving in?"
The Stupid Party put this crap in the original deal to try and get Dem votes and the Dems still voted against it! They didn't even have to include this in there, as Trump was holding all the cards.
Now we're stuck with this crap for six more years that's only going to be further funded and expanded if the Dems retake Congress.
Exactly. Ryan/McConnell should have just passed a regular budget that funds the government for 2 years. Funds all of Trump’s priorities, the military, disaster relief, etc and eliminates all the lib spending like money for Planned Parenthood and such, and dared the Dems to vote against it.
Just shut it down until an actual budget is passed, these CRs are killing the services’ acquisition programs.
They sure did....But it was the “Dems care more about illegals than the military and our citizens” that nailed them
Democrats got schlonged !
How about they spend those 17 days picking a final design for the wall, increase funding to ICE to do daily raids of businesses to inspect employment records and check eligibility for employment and maybe, at the same time, a pilot DACA program which is only eligible for those who have been in this country since age 5 or younger?
Deals with border security, punishes those who have been riding the cheap labor express (and puts a massive dent into the number of people using falsified documents) and protects ‘those poor innocent children’ that everyone keeps whining about.
That’d make for some marvelous 17 days...
BINGO! Someone else gets it. All they did was kick the can down the road another 2.5 weeks, then we’ll be doing this song and dance all over again. I didn’t want to see this CR go thru, I WANTED A BUDGET!
