You don't need me to tell you that Democrats just caved when it comes to ending the government shutdown; even some of their leading senators are admitting it. Here's Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.), a potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate:
“I don’t believe he made any commitment whatsoever and I think it would be foolhardy to believe he made a commitment.” Cc: Democratic leadership.
Here's another critic, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.):

Nobody who is not suicidal was against renewing the CHIP program so giving up something that has no value did not change the R’s bargaining position a bit. In fact it’s helped to clarify the battle lines.

Since repubs run the house and senate, they decide what gets on the agenda for vote. This is perhaps the most powerful aspect of being speaker of the house - setting the agenda.

This is off the topic but also we need a crackdown on fake marriages to provide green cards. I heard of one woman who is on third husband, all Muslims, none U.S. citizen. I don't have proof that she had done anything illegal, but it sure looks suspicious .
