Press Secretary Sarah Sanders shared a heart-wrenching tweet Saturday highlighting the sacrifices that the American military makes on a daily basis and continues to make in spite of what occurs in Washington. Elsewhere on Twitter, the Senate GOP shared a #SchumerShutdown Clock counting the hours since Democrats forced a government shutdown.
Sanders tweeted a photo showing an American Forces Network TV screen saying Due to the government shutdown, AFN services are not available. AFN provides television and entertainment such as professional sports, movies, music, and many more simple pleasures to American military around the world.
I received this from a young infantryman serving in Afghanistan this morning. Sad that the men and women who have sacrificed so much are deprived of even the most basic connection to home bc Democrats are playing political games. #SchumerShutdown pic.twitter.com/jcUqU2crF1 Sarah Sanders (@PressSec) January 20, 2018
That image is in stark contrast to the one preceding it. Sanders also shared a letter from Secretary of Defense James Mattis to American military, encouraging them to hold the line as America deals with the shutdown. Despite the federal government impasse, our nations heroes are still required to work and defend the freedom we all enjoy. Mattis also promised his personal commitment that the Department's leadership will do (their) best to mitigate the impact of the disruptions and any financial burdens to military families. He ended his note on an encouraging tone saying, I know our Nation can count on you.

As noted by the Stars and Stripes, the abrupt temporary cancellation of the AFN comes at a particularly bad timing, as many American soldiers were depending upon the network to watch the National Football League Championship games this weekend.
While American forces and many others wait for the Democrats to compromise to reopen the government, the Senate GOP started a #SchumerShutdown Clock to highlight the amount of time that has lapsed since 230 Democrats voted to shutdown the government.

Much of the staff consist of contractors. Any remaining Friday at midnight were ordered sent home.
Who ordered it shut down? Not being essential to the operation of the Department of Defense, it was ordered shut down at midnight Friday.
No one can order it to be turned back on? Not being essential to the defense of the country, no.
Whose department/agency does it fall under? DOD? Yep.
You have to ask who ordered it shut down? The rats did that’s who.
Noob: We might control The White House, the House of Reps and the Senate but we only have 51 Senators. If we had 60 we could beat the rats all the time and they wouldn’t have a chance.
It's you who needs to take your blinders off and come back to reality.
exactly
what local channels?
Troops overseas can’t watch the games tomorrow thanks to Chuck.
192 people to dinner on the tax payer’s dime thinking that they finally derailed Trump’s agenda. This will easily be a $25,000 night with tax and gratuity. The optics of this evening must be memorialized into the campaign against Democrats.
Why the hell do we have to pay for Peloi’s dinner party?
“Dont blame the demorats for this one.”
So they rats voted for the bill? They didn’t? Then they do get blamed!
Ever been in military on a remote assignment?
Nope. You cant tell me tv is that important. I dont remember FReepers whining about soldiers not having tv when the republicans shut down the government.
There’s a reason 90% of the military won’t vote for a dhimmicrat
Spoken like one who has never been there - deployed troops don’t watch near as much TV as we do but they deserve any of the small comforts that can be supplied - even though the “take a knee” crap has soured many on the NFL, making the games available to them is the right thing to do.
I bet Trump starts calling him “Shutdown Schumer” in his Tweets.
An unpaid military and an anti-American Democrat party along with some pro-illegal alien invasion Republicans, a closed door meeting with all three groups would be an interesting experience.
