Donald Trump: Democrat Shutdown a ‘Nice Present’ for One Year Anniversary as President

President Donald Trump boasted that the Democrats were giving him a political gift after they voted against a bill that would fund the government late Friday night. “This is the One Year Anniversary of my Presidency and the Democrats wanted to give me a nice present,” Trump wrote on Twitter with the hashtag #DemocratShutdown.

Trump challenged Democrats for focusing more on amnesty for illegal immigrants than funding the government.

“Democrats are far more concerned with Illegal Immigrants than they are with our great Military or Safety at our dangerous Southern Border,” he wrote. “They could have easily made a deal but decided to play Shutdown politics instead.”

On Friday afternoon, Trump met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer over cheeseburgers at the White House to discuss a possible deal, but it was ultimately rejected.

Democrat party is looking more like an enemy of the state every day.

RINOs Flake, Grahmnesty, Lee, voted no (as did Mitch and Rand Paul)

RATs: Joe Donnally (D-IN), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Doug Jones (D-AK), Joe Manchin (D-WV), and Clair McHaskill (D-MO) all voted yes.

McCain did not vote.

Schmucky, Piglosi and The Leech Boys

Jack it up, Jack it up,
Trump we're gonna' shut you down!

It happened in D.C where the 'Rats all hide,
Schmucky and Piglosi standing side by side.
A self loathing Jew and venom spitting Queen,
Mumbling and a-hissing and they sound real mean!

Jack it up, Jack it up,
Trump we're gonna' shut you down!

Yep, we're gonna' shut you down!

Taxes they are fallin' at a furious rate,
Makes it harder for the Rats to peddle their hate.
Trump's got his MAGA hat but it's understood,
The 'Rats got the voters from the Barrio and 'Hood.

Once they get 'em fired up you can bet they'll really go!

Schmucky's off and running and he's starting the show,
Marble mouth Pelosi's hot and she's ready to blow.
But Trump stands firm and he keeps his cool,
The whole country watches while they act the fool!

Trump's got them going crazy and they're completely out of control!

The 'Rats can smell those DACA votes and they want Trump's crown,
They're foaming at the mouth and shut the government down.
They're betting it all on the illegal vote,
But it's Schmucky Schumer's Shutdown and Trump says Nope!

He says "You can have the wetbacks, I'll take care of the American folks.

Compare this hammering to the tepid, ambiguous, milquetoast babble were are used to hearing from Republican leaders.

We need that man, he FIGHTS!

I hear you, we are in a precarious position. I hear the serpent weaseling through their words and rationalizations and shudder to think of being given over to the Dems.

As it stands I’m thankful for this reprieve and look forward to what God might be doing through Trump to further unravel their wicked tatting.

Lots of ambivalence from the media and the more or less sane Dems - they already had a compromise on DACA that was more than they're likely to get on a replay. And the other side of the Resistance coin - "hey, look at us, we can shut the government down!" - is "So what?" Trouble with the military pay? The Republicans propose separate funding and make the Dems turn that down. Social security, medicare, that sort of thing? Make them turn it down and watch the mid-term elections turn into a massacre. This is a losing position and a stupid fight to pick at the wrong time.

The Dems do have one hope, and that's that the Republicans will fold as they have so many times before. That, unfortunately, is not entirely unlikely. If they win on that basis the Republicans have only themselves to blame.

The budget reconciliation process gets around the filibuster, but it can only be used once a year apparently, and it was already used on the tax cut.

Once a fiscal year? Because the tax cit was approved before Christmas, so if it’s once per calendar year we’d be fine.

Yeah, per fiscal. I actually didn’t know that, I thought it’s usage was unlimited.

As I understand, it’s once per year per topic (doesn’t matter if it’s 3 separate bills or 2 or 1) covered, the topics being spending, revenues, and the federal debt limit.

Supposedly the limit can be ignored if Congress passes a “revised budget resolution”, whatever that is.

The tax cut was last year. Since then, 2018 started. If you’re correct, about using reconciliation once per year, it could have been used last week.

Fiscal year, not calendar. Fiscal year 2018 started on Oct 1, 2017.

I know when the fiscal year started. In your first comment, about this, you said, “year.” You didn’t say, “fiscal year.”
