Most politicians in Washington don’t vote with their conscience, they do what they are told. The US is an oligarchy, just like all countries. There are powerful families (read: “Americas 60 Families”, “Tragedy and Hope”) that own the major corporations, have foundations that guide the country socially and run the major think tanks (CFR, Rand Corp, Trilateral Commission, etc).

They also own the media.

The politicians are just doing what they are told.
