President Trump reportedly referred to Haiti, El Salvador, and other places you’d only want to visit in passing on a cruise line as “shithole countries,” and the whole national media acted as if they had to pause their Habitat for Humanity projects to share a cry.
The Washington Post reported Thursday that in a meeting with congressional leaders on immigration, Trump responded to questions about protecting immigrants from those countries by asking, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” He suggested people from Norway or Asia should be prioritized in getting admittance to the U.S.
Though the president denied using the reported language, choosing where your country accepts people from is no more controversial than choosing what foods you want to put in your body.
Given a choice between a steamed lobster tail and the puddles of paste that Ethiopian restaurants serve, I choose the lobster.
But CNN’s Anderson Cooper went on air to say how awful Trump is for calling Ethiopia a shithole. Cooper then continued to describe Ethiopia as, well, a shithole.
“[I]'ve never met a Haitian who isn't strong," Cooper said as he choked back tears. "You have to be to survive in a place where the government has often abandoned its people, where opportunities are few and where mother nature has punished the people far more than anyone should ever be punished."

There would be no democrat party but for shithole cities.

In the US it means any city run by democrats.
In my oilfield career I can tell you there is a plethora of shithole countries on planet Earth. Most are in Africa
You’re confusing Ethiopia with Somalia. There aren’t any pirates in Ethiopia because it’s been landlocked since Eritrea declared independence.
Agreed. Ethiopia has resources they successfully sell to the neighboring shithole countries. They are also the birthplace of coffee and a Christian nation surrounded by Islamic ones. Plus, Ethiopian food is delicious. I can’t believe the writer of this piece brought that up. Wat is delicious. The only thing I don’t like is their export of khat.
