Trump’s cut to funding for Palestinian refugees could lead to disaster
The Guardian ^ | Jan 12, 2018 | Mick Dumper

Posted on 01/12/2018 2:15:43 AM PST by Oshkalaboomboom

Having survived the recent cabinet reshuffle the international development secretary, Penny Mordaunt, is confronted with the biggest headache of her short ministerial career: the fallout of the US intention to cut funding to UNRWA, which constitutes one of the most serious challenges to UK policies in the Middle East.

Donald Trump’s threat to cut financial assistance to the UN agency specifically responsible for Palestinian refugees will be a disaster not only for the refugees but also for Israel and neighbouring countries. It does not advance US interests either. Provoked by the Palestinian rejection of Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of the state of Israel, it takes the notion cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face to a completely new diplomatic level. Although a final decision by the US is still pending, the loss of the regular subvention of $350m for UNRWA would be catastrophic for the region, with immense military and strategic implications for the US and its allies, including the UK.

If UNRWA were defunded by the US in this dramatic, sudden, and unplanned way, it would be forced to suspend within a few months most of its services to nearly 5 million Palestinian refugees. Half a million children in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon would be without schools, consigning them to the already volatile streets at a time when extremists are in full recruitment mode.

The accepted definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again.
By that definition, President Trump is the first President with a SANE solution to the Palestinan probelm.

So how is Hong Kong these days?

I don’t know how Hong Kong is. I have never been there, though I may get there one of these days, to go to Disneyland. I am in Davao City, where the big mall fire was, right before Christmas.

It's not that much. Less than a billion a year. The Euros can afford it if they're concerned. First they tell the US where we can build our Embassy, then that we have to fund the terrorists, those in and out of prison. What's next, defending Europe.

“There is nothing stopping any other country from replacing the money...”

That was my first thought too. Norway, for example, which would rather see Israel simply ‘gone’, has several TRILLION dollars of oil money stashed away. If they fund the terrorists at the level we were funding them, they’d use up 0.1% (i.e., on one-thousandth) of that money in 10 years.

In other words, the money, $250M, is a drop in bucket...any other country could pick that up, including virtually all Shithole countries.

There is nothing stopping any other country from replacing the money taken out by the USA with money from their treasury. The UK, for instance, could replace the money by witholding money from Exeter University, where the nitwit who wrote this editorial is a Professor.

LOL - take THAT Mick Dumper ... (sometimes a sh*thole is a person...not always a country or culture...)

It’s nice to see how the whole Socialist world is imploding. Only one year in office and President Trump has them stumped. I personally have been waiting for this moment for over 30 years!

Maybe if UNRWA stopped Hamas from using their facilities to attack Israel UNRWA they might have a better case for continued funding but using US taxpayer money to build terrorist tunnels does not improve their chances of funding.

Scrawling regurgitated screed in leftist rag The Guardian, Mick Dumper ignores the UNRWA's terrorist roots and role in incitement and terrorism, and claims that the worse-than-useless UNRWA can't operate without US funds:
...the international development secretary, Penny Mordaunt, is confronted with the biggest headache of her short ministerial career: the fallout of the US intention to cut funding to UNRWA, which constitutes one of the most serious challenges to UK policies in the Middle East.
Just the US intention is the fallout of her short ministerial career? Then she needs to get a real career.
...the loss of the regular subvention of $350m for UNRWA... it would be forced to suspend within a few months most of its services to nearly 5 million Palestinian refugees. Half a million children in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon would be without schools, consigning them to the already volatile streets at a time when extremists are in full recruitment mode.
Since the UNRWA only exists to recruit terrorists and build "schools" used for human shields, it should never have been funded in the first place.
Thanks Oshkalaboomboom.

The author doesn't even seem to notice that the UK is depending on US money to pursue UK policies in the middle east. That, in and of itself, says that the US needs to completely defund UNRWA, because we are funding activities against our own interests.

Schools where the curriculum has long been "Death to America, Death to Israel." All funded by U.S. taxpayers.

Memo to the President: cut off the Arab squatters COMPLETELY and immediately.
