President Trump Meets With Democrats and Republicans To Discuss DACA and Immigration Reform….
CONSERVATIVE TREEHOUSE ^ | 1/9/2018 | SUNDANCE

Posted on 01/09/2018 6:25:41 PM PST by bitt

Earlier today President Trump held a meeting today with Democrat and Republican Senators surrounding one of the most controversial issues in the current body politic. The DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and immigration reform, to include a border wall and an end of chain-migration policy, is a hot button issue on both sides of the political aisle.

President Trump surprised the entire MSM by allowing the media to stay in the meeting for an hour and hear the arguments/positions from all participants at the meeting. Extreme transparency.

Amnesty today for border security someday.

Trump said no to that today about a dozen times.

He also said he’d sign anything they send him.

Diane Feinstein tried to slip past a proposal for a DACA stand-alone (”clean”) bill and seemingly had Trump agreeing with her until a Republican pointed out that it would not include a wall, and restrictions on chain and lottery migration.

yes, but some of the Republicans said they want a robust package including ending chain migration. All the Repubs said they want a wall, all the Dems said they want "border security". There will be wall money in the deal. Whether it is adequate will be up for debate, but there will be wall money.

There was wall money in the 2006 Secure Fence Act.
Kay Bailey Hutchison R-TX clawed it back in a later bill.

No she begged for a clean deal and he encouraged her to keep begging before rejecting it. His rejection of a "clean" DACA (no wall) was unequivocal. But what he was less firm about was ending chain migration in the DACA deal or making that part of "phase 2".

Cotton, Grassley, Paul and Cruz are on the side of the citizens and the rule of law, the rest side with illegal aliens and their employers.

Remember, amnesty for illegal aliens is also amnesty for their employers.

That stinks but that was then. I am simply repeating what Trump said in the news conference / round table discussion. Trump is not some chess master or amazing negotiator. He is a common sense guy with an ability to quickly get somewhere in a short discussion.

To say that he is either doing 3-d chess or he is getting rolled is a completely false dichotomy. Trump wants to get a wall, and Trump wants DACA amnesty. If Congress claws back Trump's wall then they better do it quick, because Trump is going to build it quick.

1. The Wall

2. Visa entry/exit tracking system

3. People who come over illegally should not be caught and released into the interior but should be immediately deported.

4. End of sanctuary cities

5. End of benefits to illegals

6. End of chain migration

7. End of visa lottery

8. E-Verify

9. End of birthright citizenship

Get all of this and strictly limit DACA amnesty to only those already enrolled and that is a winning deal.

Every bill introduced so far greatly expands eligibility and it will be more like 3-4 million.
And that will only increase the pressure for a wider amnesty.
And then we lose our country.

Geez...Trump has been in office for a year. He has an excellent record of looking out for our interests.

Yet, I come here and it's wall-to-wall Chicken Little. What gives?

#3 is not realistic. The only way to deport millions of illegals is self-deportation. But your #4 and #5 are the start of self-deportation. Your #8 will help, but it is not enough. We need a culture of legal work and legal hiring on the books. Taxes still need to be simplified and reduced more. The tax and paperwork burden for employers is far too high. Illegals stay because ordinary people pay them to stay, it’s as simple as that.

#3 relates to those caught near the border.
Instead of releasing them into the US, they should be returned to Mexico immediately.

No disrespect to anyone at Free Republic, but there are many conservatives out here, including me and my family, and friends, that fully support the President’s sensible approach to our immigration issue.

I have complete faith in Trump. I watched the ENTIRE meeting and several Republican members brought up the points people are concerned about here. Trump expanded on the points by insisting on a merit system. Please keep in mind, DACA are people who came here with their illegal parents. They have no other home at all. I want this fixed permanently with a wall, end to chain migration, end to lottery system, and merit based immigration going forward. Has Trump lied to us yet? Seriously, think about it. Is he afraid of the wall, of immigration, of anything? He is no one’s bitch. I encourage everyone to have a little faith in a guy who’s delivered way more than I ever dreamed possible.

Pay attention to what he has been doing over his first year - he is making the point that nothing is more important to the Dems than our lack of resistance to invasion and his insistence on protecting the borders/stopping chain migration/lottery migration and other nonsense will result in them crying like babies and refusing to deal.

I will admit my doubt if you are correct. But he said he would sign whatever the group brought him. The group will not send the DACA adults back to Mexico “mostly” nor their parents in the shadows.

And who will they thank? Not Donald. Not the group. But the Dems!

No offense to you, but you support him because you have not been involved with it as deeply or as long as have some of the Freepers you criticize.

How old are you? Where do you live? What do you do? All without giving up your anonymity.
