Californians are beginning to wonder: Is the state heading back into a drought?
While experts say it’s still too early in the winter rainy season to say for sure, the evidence is accumulating, and the rain is definitely not.
La Niña conditions in the Pacific Ocean — the cooling of ocean waters near the equator that have historically increased the chances of dry winters in California — are strengthening and should last through the spring, federal scientists said Thursday.
December has so far brought almost no rain across the state, and with no significant storms forecast for the next two weeks in the Bay Area, the month is on track to become the driest December in San Jose history since records began in 1893 and the third driest in San Francisco history back to 1849.

It’s pouring down rain. Has been for 48 hours or so.
These people want a drought.

Looks to me like Mother Nature might have had enough of Southern Cal and is trying to shoo them away to other locales.

Absolutely they are. When they aren’t under the cacaphonous deluge of thunderstorms or the blinding flurries of blizzards, California is otherwise under the effects of blistering droughts. /s
Someone I know in Telluride, CO who told me yesterday that temperatures are around normal for this time of year, but they have zero snow. Zero. That puts quite a crimp in a town that relies on skiing for probably 90% of the annual income.

If another drought does hit, the people really should take the state government to task for not having built more dams to retain the current rain for future use.
They had years to build reservoirs and spreader dams so the water could be stored up and seep back into the ground.
They preferred to import more people.
California, on the whole, must repent.
The stupidest thing is they don’t even realize they’ve done it to themselves. The average rainfall in California hasn’t truly dropped enough to lead to the drought conditions. The morons in the CA legislature created the problem.
Years ago, farmers were given a restriction on water usage. Fruits and veggies could only be re-washed 10 times using sanitized water. You wanted to wash them with re-used, it had to have been boiled. Someone there, for some stupid reason, got the idea that if you boil it, it’s not good enough, so they set new restrictions. Only once. Then it has to be dumped. Not to be reused. At all. Ever. So, the next year, amazingly enough, when the farmers had to stop using the machines they paid millions for, the state suddenly had, with no discernable change in average rainfall, droughts, wild fires and couldn’t figure out why the ground was now dried, the lakes were no longer as full and the rivers were no longer flowing as strong. Well, DUH.
Oh well. I can’t fix those idiots there on the left coast. Still have enough to worry about here.
