NEWS DESK- The United States-led international coalition in the coming period to take military and diplomatic steps towards federal areas in northern Syria and include diplomatic and political recognition.
Al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper said that the international coalition is expected to carry out ten military, political and diplomatic steps towards the areas east of the Euphrates river, whicch has been liberated by Syrias democratic forces SDF including diplomatic and political recognition of the area of 28,000 square kilometers, or three times the size of Lebanon.
The newspaper quoted a Western official that the U.S Administration is in the process of adopting a new strategy for Syria.
The official told Al-sharq al-Awsat that the first concrete reference to the new American approach came from US Secretary of Defense Jim Matisse when he said Washington would send diplomats to the Syrian Democratic ForcesSDF areas to work alongside military experts.
According to the newspaper, the American steps include ten elements are increasing military support to the Syrian Democratic Forces and the political recognition of the liberated areas and pressure on the participation of representatives of these areas in the political process.
And that the international coalition will train the Syrian Democratic Forces SDF to maintain the stability of the liberated areas and work to strengthen the local civil councils and support the reconstruction and the strengthening of services and infrastructure and training of government and judicial organs and support the electoral process in the federal regions of North Syria.
The International Coalition will provide military support and air protection to these areas, including Manbij and Afrin cities
A senior Western official told al- sharq al-Awsat that Washington has worked to support the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces on the east of the Euphrates River and sources there to achieve several goals, including confirming to Iran that Washington will not accept the handover of Syria and its east and improve the negotiating position with Damascus and Moscow on a future political settlement. And strengthen the negotiating position of the representatives of the federal north of Syria with Damascus with a Russian acceptance of this matter; which explains the establishment (Syrian Democratic forces) good relations with the US and Russian armies.
It is not just the U.S. supporting this recognition.
The defeat of ISIS in Syria came at a high price in lives of Kurds, Arabs and Assyrians who actually fought the battles with our support. That must not be lost after ISIS's defeat, by entering another open conflict.
It is clear that the US and Russia both want stability to return.
Turkey is the only reason we havent given the ok to the formation of a Kurdistan. The upper hand that they held with previous presidents has flipped. Trump, you magnificent bastard, youve done it again!
This would have happened years ago had the cowardly Obama not reneged on the agreement with the coalition.
That's because the Kurds want an independent Kurdistan to extend far beyond Syria's borders. The Kurds live in and would claim parts of not only Syria, but also Iraq, Turkey, and Iran, from the Mediterranean to the Caspian Sea.
That's a lot of governments losing land, and a lot of oil changing ownership. It's also another sect of Islam vying with the others for supremacy in the ME. The current rulers will not be in favor of that.
Obama was a total disaster for the US, the Middle East and the world. PERIOD.
Yes.
In Syria that is not the case, the majority of Syrian Kurds are not Muslim. Significant percentages of Atheists, Christian (Assyrian & converts). The Kurds who are Muslim are almost totally sectarian in outlook. In Iraq they are very high percentage Muslim (roughly 75/25 Sunni/Shia)
A move towards Kurdistan, I hope?
At this point I see nothing doing that. It could have happened in Iraq, but for the recent conflict between Baghdad and Erbil.
Big mistakes made on handling that.
In Syria, I don’t see more than a protected district within Syria. Syrian Kurds have never advocated separation from Syria.
Thanks for the info. All I know is the kurds are our friends, fierce fighters, and not worshippers of the child molester fake prophet.
Due to English Bureaucraps at the end of WWI the Kurds are a varied lot.
Parts of:
Iraq
Iran
Syria
Turkey
Were Kurdistan. Leaders promised them a nation when the Ottoman empire was divided, but English Bureaucraps (called Diplomats) chose to not do that because of the oil that lay under their part of the world. So they left them country segmented unnaturally.
