With Sen. John McCain in the twilight of his career, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee sees a coming void in the Trump era.
As he's expressed his desire to join the U.S. Senate, Mitt Romney has privately revealed that a driving purpose of his service would be to emulate a former rival and fellow foiled Republican presidential nominee: Sen. John McCain.
"There's got to be somebody who can stand up to the president," Romney told members of the Utah congressional delegation in recent weeks, according to a person with knowledge of his comments. "Who's going to stand up to Trump?"

Tell me the alternative?
I'm sure the interview was perfunctory as Romney would have made an awful Sec of State just like he made an awful presidential candidate.
Romney cannot be trusted to support the Trump Administration. He will always support the establishment and the Deep State and he has no issue with the Republicans playing second fiddle to the Democrats so long as he and his GOPe pals have a seat at the table - even if it is the servants table. He would have been pleased as punch if Hillary was elected.
His pre-election statements regarding Trump were ugly and uncalled for. Especially as Trump himself endorsed Romney in 2012. He will never live those down. He's disloyal and cannot be trusted.
Mitt is an opportunist, a political chameleon who desperately craves to be president. He’ll go full tilt liberal if he thinks it will get him elected.
Is he from Massachusetts or Utah? Does he want to be a Secretary of State or a U.S. Senator? Does he believe in the free market or support mandatory, socialized government healthcare? Mittens is all over the place.
The only thing that is consistent about him is his driving political ambition. I don’t think he will get support from any conservatives.
Hate these people. They have to stand up to a good man but not to evil illegal immigrant leftists?
Excellent comment. Well said.
But there is no way that the BISHOP will lose in Utah.
***********
The BISHOP! LOL Good one.
For 8 years under Bush, McCain was always the media’s go to guy and they even gave him the nickname “the Maverick”. The day he lost the election you never heard him referred to as the Maverick again.........LOL!
Not if someone primaries the s.o.b. That’s how Utah got Mike Lee.
“Never-Trump” is a fever, a disease that may pass with time, and upon recovery, the former patient realizes that President Donald Trump had a much clearer vision of the world than was formerly believed.
Most of Trump’s policies that have been set in motion have had real and positive results, especially with the revisions to the tax code. Even the current revisions are only a beginning in true overhaul, or even elimination of the IRS as it now exists. The widespread reductions in various legal restrictions on the business of doing business have had long-range implications in both economic growth, and general morale of the majority of the voting population, which reflects in voting patterns. “Voting your pocketbook” becomes a catchphrase that really works.
Someone has to run in the wrong direction with the burned out torch that is RINOism?
Impossible because he can’t play the veteran card.
Mitt is much worse than McCain.
McCain will only arm foreign enemies who want to kill us and try to drag us into wars.
Mitt will do that too, but his track record also includes working to indoctrinate young children into sexual perversions through the schools and pushing socialized medicine.
Unless Trump embraces pushing all this weird many genders crap Mitt Romneycare will oppose him, because Mitt was pushing this same fecal perversion through the school administration when he was Governor of Massachusetts.
So no, he won’t get along because Trump opposes one of Mitt’s key policy goals.
Question: Does Romney have a “foundation” like McCain, Clintons and others? If so, I doubt he will make it to running. I do not think this is going to be a very good year for long term politicians, especially those with those lovely “foundations” and 4 million dollar houses on politician salaries.....
There’s a ‘Romney Foundation for Children’ (of course).
He has an enormous ego, and needs as much attention as he can garner. As a disrupting senator, he’ll be in hog heaven with the media hanging onto his every disrupting word.
“Maverick Mittens”?!!
there. fixed it.
