WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt, the conservative former attorney general of Oklahoma, is interested in replacing Attorney General Jeff Sessions if that job becomes available, sources with knowledge of the matter said on Friday.
President Donald Trump has openly criticized Sessions for months, provoking speculation that the attorney general might resign or be fired. The EPA chief would likely accept the position if it were offered by Trump, a source close to Pruitt told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Jahan Wilcox, an EPA spokesman, in an email denied that Pruitt was interested in serving as attorney general.
This is not true, Wilcox said.
Administrator Pruitt is solely focused on implementing President Trumps agenda to protect the environment, Wilcox added.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment.

“Sources with the knowledge” and who might that be, so sick of this.
Trump demands loyalty and Pruitt shows that. Pruitt also get Trumps programs done. Session was a mistake and Trump, his family and America suffers. Time to cure the Session flu.
Nope.
Also, IIRC, since Pruitt has already been approved by the Senate for his EPA post, he could be laterally moved over to DOJ without having to go through another round of Senate approval (which unlikely would be easily obtained if Trump let Sessions go). If this is indeed the case, another strong reason for Pruitt to replace Sessions.
Sessions has to go. Monday would be good.
1. Jeff Sessions retires.
2. Andrew McCarthy appointed Attorney General.
Problem solved.
not breaking news, there is no news here, it’s mere rumor
“Sessions has to go. Monday would be good.”
Last Monday.
I don’t see any way a replacement for Sessions would ever be confirmed by this senate. The Deep State powers that be would block any new AJ nominee.
Boy would that tip over the apple cart. We can dream, right?
They're in the same league as the Washington Post.
Sessions and Carson are not at the Camp David planning meeting. Pruitt is.
