Donald Trump rises with Steve Bannon’s fall
NBC News ^ | JAN 4 2018, 7:42 PM ET | JONATHAN ALLEN

Steve Bannon has unified the Republican Party — against Steve Bannon.

And President Donald Trump stands to benefit most from his former chief strategist's comeuppance.

Without Bannon barking in his ear — and nipping at the heels of Republican senators — it will be easier for Trump to deliver on the remainder of a legislative agenda that threatens to strain his base over issues such as federal spending, government wiretaps and immigration.

Similarly, a weakened Bannon figures to have less firepower to challenge sitting Republican senators — and imperil Trump's GOP majority — in this year's midterm elections.

Translation: Trump plans to move left.

Doubt it, but as with all politicians, and Trump admits to being one, the proof will be in the pudding.

Who thought it was a good idea to give Michael “I call my investors The Stupids & don’t pay my employees so I can pay myself” Wolff access to the White House?

Bannon didn’t do this for some greater strategy to help MAGA.

His ego got the best of him. He tried to take credit for everything POTUS stood for and his success. Ridicules.

SKB can’t see the 12mil Dems who crossed over to give CINC the win. He’s running on bad posits.

Donald Freakin Trump showed the exact stance to win the electorate. Ignore it hubristicly and LOSE.

the FR bannon worship needs to end, or the worshippers need to pick a side and move on. they clearly cannot have this both ways.

beyond talking a lot, and losing an unlosable senate seat, I defy anyone to point to something bannon has actually done. the "economic nationist" argument is a huge line of crap; bannon has proven that he's an economic bannonist. it's all about him. the rest is simply being an ineffective loudmouth, which does manage to get all of the other ineffective loudmouths all fired up.

trump is remaking US foreign and domestic policy. he doesn't need to be stabbed in the back by someone that jumped on the bandwagon after he had already pretty much won the race.

Maybe. Probably even. But what nags at me is the fact that Bannon is damn smart and doesn’t have a history of sawing off his own appendages. You’re probably right but my hunch is that Bannon and his new Chinese billionaire pal are going to launch a new media operation that will take on Breitbart, Drudge, and the rest, and which will be critical of Trump at times in the same way the progressives are critical of Hillary not being liberal enough - except Trump won’t be doing MAGA quickly enough.

It probably did not take long for Kelly to realize that the big leaker was Bannon.

I think Steve Bannon is a very smart person but he is also his own worst enemy.

“Is this going to end up as some kind of backdoor method for the GOPe to reclaim influence by inducing the President to move away from Bannon in terms of policy as well? It seems like somebody could be setting that up... “

No. Since Bannon has left the Trump Administration, there has been no indication Trump is abandoning his principles but he will need the GOP Congress to help him get a lot of the major work done. It will be interesting to see who Trump supports in open GOP primaries though...by “open” I mean those with no incumbents. I presume he will support most, if not all, of incumbents running for reelection.

What you are saying in this post is 180 degrees from what you said yesterday. Yesterday you said Bannon’s statements were false, and so were Trump’s statement’s attacking Bannon. And you said. Bannon was still great and he and Trump were working together.

Shapiro has a great insight on Bannon. Yea I know he doesn’t like Trump but worth a listen. He has great information in the video.

I didn’t say Trump and Bannon were working together.

When this first broke I was asking for POTUS statements that kept getting quoted in the media.

And yea with the media always making stuff up and using “sources” I didn’t believe the quotes until POTUS and Djr came out and slammed Bannon. Then it became obvious it was true, and not just media naming “sources”. So what?

I never claimed they were doing some 3D chess move and were working together. Put down your pipe, Never Trumper.

The simplest explanation is that Bannon was three sheets to the wind when most of these quotes were made.

How quickly we forget the infamous Anthony Scaramucci recording from his phone call with that reporter -- the call that led to his resignation. LOL.

weird. some people are more hysterically opposed to insufficiently pure republicans than the G*d damned liberals that hijacked our health care and immasculated our military.

that is simply clinical behavior.
