Washington: The US is considering new regulations aimed at preventing the extension of H-1B visas, predominantly used by Indian IT professionals, as part of US President Donald Trumps Buy American, Hire American initiative, a media report has said.
The move could directly stop hundreds of thousands of foreign workers from keeping their H-1B visas while their green card applications are pending.
The proposal which is being shared between the Department of Homeland Security Department (DHS) heads is part of Trumps Buy American, Hire American initiative promised during the 2016 campaign, US-based news agency McClatchys DC Bureau reported.
It aims to impose new restrictions to prevent abuse and misuse of H-1B visas, besides ending the provision of granting an extension for those who already have a green card.
The act currently allows the administration to extend the H-1B visas for thousands of immigrants, predominantly Indian immigrants, beyond the allowed two three-year terms if a green card is pending, the report said.
The idea is to create a sort of self- deportation of hundreds of thousands of Indian tech workers in the US to open up those jobs for Americans, it said, quoting a source briefed by Homeland Security officials.

Keep these foreigners out of our work force. HIRE AMERICANS from college so they can pay off their student loans because I damned sure won’t.
You make the mistake of expecting the MSM to do their job.
If not cancelled outright the next move should be ensuring that when the H1B holder buys a ‘3 way ticket’ (ticket back to homeland, and return ticket to USA for H1B holder and spouse) that they don’t get automatic citizenship for their offspring when here.
Oh they do go into medicine. They are just nervous about after college employment prospects. Hopefully this will improve things :)
Good! And no visas or work permits to allow anyone to come with them. Make these ininviting.
Make them non-renewable and add a 100% fee on top to go to training Americans to replace them at the end of their engagement.
I am not sure that the US schools turn out enough people without a ‘studies’ degree of some sort to take on all the potential techy positions that would open up if we said goodbye to our imported workers.
Well good point but let’s get to that empirical data and then allow ONLY merit based aliens.
I hope so. You know all of these East Indian doctors I see almost all of them are over the age of forty. They sure as hell don’t look like they’re just out of medical school and I know for a fact, in my hospital, they’re Muslims. I hear names over the intercom all the time for ‘’Dr. Ibrahim’’ and ‘’Dr Yusef’’ and I’m sure, thanks to chain migration they’ve got the whole family here with them.
State government IT jobs here in Kentucky were quickly being overtaken by foreigners with H1B visas, predominantly Indian IT professionals, when I retired from my state IT job in 2002. I’ve been told that the trend has continued. I’ve always thought that Kentuckians should fill those jobs even if state government had to get more involved to provide the training that would be necessary to allow that. I think a phasing out of the H1B visas is a great thing.
People are studying what they believe will allow them to pay off their student loans (I’ve run into no “studies” majors yet and the department seems to survive by having courses inflicted on students with other majors). Tech has gone out of its way being unfriendly.
President Trump is following through, again.
It’s really unusual to have a President stick to what he ran on.
We are so lucky he stepped up for US.
Indeed we are lucky, lets just hope that luck holds
Why is it a consideration? He just signed an EO that prohibits the spouses from getting jobs.
Just effin’ do it.
Maybe you didn't realize that the last president to rule by EO had his policies reversed by EO. Maybe President Trump is trying to get the congress to pass legislation that will be immune to the future EO whims of the next Rat president. Just a thought...
Well I’m midway through a dual major. I will be piling up a buttload of certifications to go along with that though.
We have lost a generation of IT entry level positions that have gone to Indians. This will take years to reverse and Millennials will have to be directed to the IT field not sure this is possible. French Art majors have to be made coders so that will take years.
