Woman who accused Roy Moore of sexual misconduct sues him for defamation (Leigh Corfman)
Washington Post ^ | 01/04/2018 | Beth Reinhard

Posted on 01/04/2018 2:50:07 PM PST by Drew68

In a lawsuit that echoes a civil case against President Trump, an Alabama woman on Thursday sued failed U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore and his campaign for defamation, citing harsh personal attacks she faced after coming forward with allegations he touched her sexually when she was 14 years old.

Leigh Corfman is not seeking financial compensation beyond legal costs. She is asking for a declaratory judgment of defamation, a public apology from Moore, and a court-enforced ban on him or his campaign publicly attacking her again. She said in a statement that the suit seeks “to do what I could not do as a 14-year-old — hold Mr. Moore and those who enable him accountable.”

A representative of Moore’s campaign, Brett Doster, said he had no immediate comment on the lawsuit, filed in state court in Montgomery County, Ala.

Corfman told The Washington Post in November that when Moore was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney in 1979, he took her to his house, undressed her, touched her over her underpants and bra and guided her hand to touch his genitals over his underwear.

Moore has called Corfman’s allegations of abuse “politically motivated,” “completely false” and “malicious.” On Nov. 10, the day after the story published, he told Sean Hannity of Fox News he had never met Corfman but he did not rule out that he might have dated older teenagers when he was in his 30s.

It’s a he said/she said situation, but if I understand correctly the rules are different for her than for him.

If she claims defamation she has to prove that he showed “negligence toward the truth” - meaning, perhaps, that she can claim that he didn’t have her psychoanalyzed by a doctor before saying that her claims were politically motivated rather than just wanting money, having a psychological illness, etc.

If that is true, it is horribly unfair to Moore.

But Moore should sue to have Allred disbarred before anything comes of this or any other suit from the lying hag. She presented a known forgery as if it was genuine. She needs to go away for a very long time.

I believe Allred did her deed in New York, where Moore would face a demographically hostile jury. Did you see where her daughter was involved in trying to bribe women to make sexual accusations against Trump?

But yes, Allred needs to be a target.

The poster you are responding to has said that Christianity is incompatible with democratic governance. The majority always goes with the crooks so Christians who don’t believe in being crooks are always losers - and always should be, because they “don’t have winner written on them”, according to his/her previous posts.

Just want you to know what you’re dealing with here. A political darwinist. Amoral.

And I think the same probably holds true for a bunch of people who are very vocally anti-Moore here. Probably within the voting public too.

We are truly engaged in a war against any kind of moral standards, and especially Christianity. Even here on FR.

The fact that the "relief" she's seeking includes an apology from Moore pretty much exposes this thing as a PR stunt.

The original accusation was just a PR stunt. Did you know she has been represented by an Attorney who is the Treasurer for the Democrat party of Alabama?

There was a Democrat party official steering her right from the beginning.

I hope the truth comes out, but I doubt it. Either this was a great political hit job, or Roy Moore is an a$$. I really dont know.

Roy Moore ran for governor twice and was thoroughly trounced both times. The only statewide election he ever won was for judge in 2012, barely, and receiving 400,000 fewer votes than Mitt Romney! Moore received over 100,000 fewer votes than Jeff Sessions did in 2014 when Sessions ran unopposed!

Alabamans just didn't really like Roy Moore all that much even before Leigh Corfman ever showed up.

The very idea that there are “demographically hostile” juries is sick. I know it exists, and I blame the media liars.

America’s worst enemies are domestic. Somebody said the real danger of Obama being elected is that America had a populace capable of electing him. The idiots in this country can very easily be a fatal condition for what was a great country.

In my opinion, one of the fatal mistakes Roy Moore made was his promise to vote against Mitch McConnell for Senate Majority Leader.

I agree with you; that was a poor move in the chess game. But ... again ... he honestly represented the feelings of the American majority with regard to our opinion of McConnell. He should have bit his tongue, but what he spoke was not out of line. Unfortunately it served to solidify the uniparty's efforts against him. And, he does not have Trump's endearing personality to maintain momentum despite the attacks.

WP will never need to mount a defense because Moore will never file suit against them or any of his accusers.

And for good reason.

Yes, and one which you obviously missed by not reading the message to which you replied. He won't file suit against WaPo cause they will argue freedom of the press to report what others say, and he won't file suit against Corfman of Nelson because neither woman has a d@mn thing that can be taken away from them to punish them.

They are lawsuit proof because they are poor. Suing poor people is a stupid gambit. You won't get anything. Now if he could put them in jail if they lose, that might make it worthwhile, but we don't have debtor's prison since 1776.

That’s why he led in the polls by 28% before the AL Dem Party treasure drummed up Corfman.

Riiiiiiight.

Donald J. Trump is the President of the United States today because more than 60 million voters finally had enough of those "Christian" @ssholes the GOP has been parading out as presidential candidates for years.

You can take that "Christian" Bush family back to Mexico where they belong. By the time 2016 rolled around, Yeb Bush was less popular than ISIS among Republican voters.

I voted for the Emperor Constantine, whose flaws were laid bare for everyone to see and who didn't feel a need to pontificate to the voters of this country about his Christianity.

This is what is known as a serious lack of situational awareness. Think of Mitt Romney groveling at Donald Trump's feet for a Secretary of State appointment ... after his ridiculous attacks against Trump during the campaign. Forget about voting for a pr!ck like that. I wouldn't follow him out of a burning house.

The GOP’s efforts were already in place against Moore. Check out his history in Alabama politics, and you get a picture of a guy who burned every bridge he came across in his political career.

She doesn’t have to prove her claims. She has to prove that Moore didn’t rule out mental illness on her part when he said her actions were politically motivated.

Her own life's history argues strongly for mental illness.

Those who make this about Roy Moore - you know, the trollish posters who clog all the threads about him - are ignoring the legal danger here. If Allred can flash a $100 bill in a trailer park and get people to lie about stories way beyond the statute of limitations and thus unprovable, AND THEN sue for defamation anybody who says a peep against the accuser, then there is NOBODY that Allred can’t destroy with impunity.

Many of us saw that threat from the very beginning.

But then, the people I see on this thread don’t seem to care much about lawlessness and even say that Christianity is incompatible with a democratic form of government - IOW, truth, life, property, etc have no place “counting” in this country.

I've noticed that. It's depressing how so many people are willing to condemn someone on the flimsiest basis. There is a mob mentality at work.

Sad. And incredibly short-sighted, to say that only unscrupulous liars should ever be allowed to win in a democratic process.

That is what it works out to be. Yes, it's very bad for civilization.

Exactly. We know everything about Moore. We are about to learn about her.

What has already been made public about her is not good for her credibility. This has the potential to backfire on her badly.

Of the people running for a leadership role in that burning house we call the Senate, he was the more likely candidate to direct us safely to an exit. Not following him is what is known colloquially as "cutting off our nose to spite our face". He made a strategic error. We all have. It doesn't make him "bad people". And he was still the better person for the job and would have represented the American majority well.

I wasn’t sure Moore was a good candidate until I read your post.
Now: We apparently suffered a grievous loss at the hands of the swamp / deep state based on lies and treachery.

In my opinion, one of the fatal mistakes Roy Moore made was his promise to vote against Mitch McConnell for Senate Majority Leader. That itself demonstrated his complete ignorance the elected office he was looking to fill.

Again, i'm having a hard time grasping how you think here. Very few conservatives are happy with Mitch McConnel, (did you see the racist attack ads he funded against Chris McDaniel in Mississippi?) and a lot of us want him out of the leadership. I don't see this as disqualifying at all, in fact I see it as the opposite of disqualifying.

Who the hell was Roy Moore going to support for the position of Senate Majority Leader

I've answered this before in other discussions. The entire statement is predicated on their being a challenge. If there is no challenge, it doesn't apply.

It was obvious to anyone watching the Alabama election process unfold that Moore was simply carrying Steve Bannon's anti-McConnell water here -- and that was really a tone-deaf, idiotic approach to a special election for a single seat in the U.S. Senate.

Even if you see it that way, this "tone deaf" approach had nothing to do with why Moore lost. Moore lost because a Democrat party motivated kook made 40 year old lurid accusations against him, and on the basis of these unproven accusations, his own party membership deliberately stabbed him in the back. (Especially Richard Shelby.)

I just like watching idiots getting embarrassed...please continue.

The ones parroting the DC Swamp, like several of you are doing on this thread, are the ones who should be embarrassed. It's sad and crazy to witness how the DC Swamp psy-ops even works on so-called conservatives. SMH

You’ve said that a Christian worldview is incompatible with a democratic form of government.

You wanted Roy Moore to lose because he had the audacity to say that natural law with its absolutes are what both the Declaration of Independence and Constitution depend on. You don’t want it to depend on that; that would be “pontificating”.

You want killing babies to be decided by a majority opinion, not by what is objectively right and wrong.

You want libel to depend on who is powerful enough to get away with it, not on truth actually mattering.

The totalitarian majority having absolute control is diabolically opposed to a CONSTITUTIONAL republic, where the Constitution is the embodiment of a government founded because of the INALIENABLE RIGHTS ENDOWED BY THE CREATOR.

You are at war with the Declaration of Independence, which is the reason we have a CONSTITUTIONAL form of government.

Given that, your posts all make sense.

But those who are ready to rake Moore over the coals should first think long and hard about who you are, what you espouse, and where that would further lead this nation if that became all we had and politics devoured all “Christian @ssholes” like Moore, who remind us of our founding principles.

I voted for Trump because he’s the first person willing to take on the lying, stealing, molesting, killing Satanists running our government and media today. He is willing to live out the truth/standards/principles that Roy Moore has verbalized. IOW he lives by Christianity more than the vultures in DC do. If you have a gripe against Christianity’s principles (and it definitely seems that you do; what’s up with you?) then you should have voted for Hillary instead of Trump because even though Hillary professes to be a Christian she obviously doesn’t even know who Christ is. And CERTAINLY doesn’t push the need for truth, sanctity of human life, right of possession, etc You know, all that “sanctimonious” stuff that Roy Moore talks about and Donald Trump defends.

Yep, plus it's a crime to fail to preserve all existing evidence for discovery and forensic analysis, including the evidence that has been tampered with.
