The cointel op was always just a ruse for wiretapping, surveillance and monitoring of Donald Trump campaign officials.
If Hillary was elected, the entire counterintelligence operation just disappears into the ether. No-one would ever know about it.

Wrong. “Everyone” knew Trump wouldn’t win, so this operation setup the Hillary Clinton administration to destroy Donald Trump, his family, friends, and businesses.
So far, that has mostly been correct. However, there have been leaks that were damaging to the DOJ whenever they've denied Congress the info they've asked for. And since the good guys likely already the info, it will probably just be leaked again, soon, anyway. And that is worst case.
Best case, Trump himself finally says enough is enough, and actually forces the DOJ to comply in some fashion, and there are a lot of options at his disposal. And he just might, and probably will at some point, as he and Nunes have been cultivating a personal and professional relationship ever since the inauguration.
Three or four battalions of Marines show up at DOJ FBI, NSA and CIA will get EVERYONE’S attention.
