The Real Reason White Americans Voted for Trump
American Thinker.com ^ | December 31, 2017 | Zachary Goldberg

Roughly a month ago, Atlantic senior editor Adam Serwer authored an article that MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell soon hailed as "mandatory reading." Titled 'The Nationalist's Delusion," the piece challenges the popular narrative that Trump's electoral triumph was propelled by the economic estrangement of white working- and middle-class voters. Rejecting this account, Serwer holds pervasive and deep-seated, if implicit, animosity toward non-white minorities as the ultimate fillip of the Trump phenomenon. To borrow from MSNBC's Van Jones, the 2016 election outcome was, in Serwer's telling, just one big case of "whitelash." Concerns over lax immigration policies, the flight of blue-collar jobs, Islamic terrorism (and obscurantism thereof), and an expressively stifling culture of political correctness were all a pretext for the maintenance of white supremacy and racial inequality.

A key data point Serwer draws on to advance this claim is Trump's "sweeping victory" across all income categories of white voters:

Trump defeated Clinton among white voters in every income category, winning by a margin of 57 to 34 among whites making less than $30,000; 56 to 37 among those making between $30,000 and $50,000; 61 to 33 for those making $50,000 to $100,000; 56 to 39 among those making $100,000 to $200,000; 50 to 45 among those making $200,000 to $250,000; and 48 to 43 among those making more than $250,000. In other words, Trump won white voters at every level of class and income. He won workers, he won managers, he won owners, he won robber barons. This is not a working-class coalition; it is a nationalist one.

Incidentally, in a veritable "white male privilege coming out party," neo-conservative writer Max Boot recently credited both Serwer and these figures, more specifically, in helping him finally "see the light" of America's endemic racism and xenophobia.

Libtards have done a good job in convincing the upper middle class that voting for Demorats, supporting amnesty, globalism, welfare, etc., is something they can feel good about. And, since they have plenty of money, by middle class standards, they are good to go with the Obozo Hitlery program.

Trump offered hope to flyover country that the America where they could work and live reasonably secure lives for their families would not vanish forever.

Trump’s electoral triumph was propelled by the economic estrangement of white working- and middle-class voters.

The plantation owners (democrats) speeches failed media help lose the election and the next one too.

I didn’t vote for Trump because he was white. Hillary was white.

That point right there blows up the whole narrative about racist voters.

This constant obsession with race is the very definition of racism.

I didn’t vote for Trump because he was white. Hillary was white. I voted for Trump because I felt for the first time since Reagan someone running for President actually cared about the things I do ... and meant it. Simple as that.

And you are going to be proven correct!

Because the American voter still knows they can afford to have an unqualified president based on privilege such as a racist or sexist. That makes the voters feel better about themselves. But these privilege presidents caused damaged and the future of the county.

If you voted for Trump because he was “not Hillary” then you missed the whole Trump agenda and phenomenon. It means you still don’t get it.

Because we are sick of over a 100+ years of “progressives” or liberals or who I call “regressives”, which effectively started during President Wilson’s reign, of using the force of government to force us to live how they want us to live.

The Left has made race an central issue in this country for the past few decades. The rhetoric and volume has been turned up to ever-increasing levels, especially under Obama.

The Left has become, effectively, anti-white.

They are reaping the consequences of their political decisions.

The idea that there is one reason why people vote for a candidate is specious.

with 60 years in politics, I have yet to see an election where more than 25% of people voted for a candidate for the same reason.

That 25% is people who vote solely due to the D or R beside the name.

With Trump, after the R beside his name, the lesser of 2 evils was the 2d largest group to vote for Trump. Those voters (we) feared what he would do. We are pleasantly excited that he is much better than we had feared.

Then comes Guns and Bible. Support from the single issue 2d amendment and single issue Court nomination voters were the driving issues.

There were in fact an extremely small number who voted for Trump (and before that for Romney or McCain) motivated by race and sex. That number of voters exists but is very, very small.

How can there possibly be any racial angle to the election whatsoever when millions of Barack Obama voters supported Donald Trump over an old, haggard, wheezing white woman?

Bravo! Because the polling was so good, right?

Remember this?

As I wrote elsewhere, one of the key and many times unsung elements of Trump and Deplorables, is that the coalition he put together has the potential to unite heretofore un-united individuals. Minorities of all stripes (blacks, hispanics, gays), union guys, and others used by the statists for decades suddenly seem willing to jump on the Trump Train.

That moment when Trump uttered those magnificent words above, scared LOTS of Dems and #NeverTrumpers. It scared Dems because they realized their decades-long spousal abuse of minorities was being challenged. #NeverTrumpers didn't like the prospect of rubbing elbows with some minority who worked construction.

Onward and upward...I'd rather have the likes of Diamond and Silk at my barbecue than McCain or Mittens.

I voted for President Trump because I knew our country was on a one-way trip to hell and wide load Clinton would have taken us there and because I have sense enough to vote for a person for what they stand for and not be told what to think or how to vote like so many lemmings in this country!! MAGA

When you start with the premise that all whites are racist, then all data points can be used to justify your prejudice. This guy Serwer simply overlooks the fact that Trump did better than other republican candidates with minorities, for example. He also overlooks the fact that many leaders of minority political groups clearly want to isolate and punish whites, and then calls whites racist if they vote in their own self interest, as minorities supposing do when voting for democrats.
