ONLY GOD GIVES PEACE
The Lord will give [unyielding and impenetrable] strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace. Psalm 29:11
One of the greatest ways God speaks to us and leads us is through the inner witness. In other words, we just know inside what is right or wrong. It is a deeper level of knowing than "head knowledge". This type of knowing is in the spirit...we simply have peace or a lack of peace. By the presence or absence of peace, we know what we should do. I once spoke with a woman who needed to make a serious decision. Her family and friends were giving her advice, but she needed to know within herself what the right answer was because she was the one who would have to live with it. She had been in a certain business all of her life and was feeling that she wanted to get out of it and stay home with her children. Of course, this would require drastic financial adjustments and personal changes for her, things that could even affect her emotionally. She needed to know from God, not from other people, what the right decision was. The woman went to a retreat with a relative. During the course of that weekend, as she praised and worshipped God and listened to the speaker, a knowing and a peace came into her heart that she was indeed right about closing the business. She said a moment just came when she knew what was right. She has had peace about her decision ever since. It is amazing how well-meaning people can tell us things, yet they really don't affect us. But when God speaks to us about a matter, it has a great impact on us. Ask God for the inner witness that only He can give. Faith-Building Memories
December 31, 2017
Great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:23
As I stepped into the music-filled sanctuary, I looked around at the crowd that had gathered for a New Years Eve party. Joy lifted my heart with hope, as I recalled the prayers of the previous year. Our congregation had collectively grieved over wayward children, deaths of loved ones, job losses, and broken relationships. But wed also experienced Gods grace as we recalled changed hearts and healed personal connections. Wed celebrated victories, weddings, graduations, and baptisms into Gods family. Wed welcomed children born, adopted, or dedicated to the Lord, and moreso much more.
Reflecting over the history of trials our church family faced, much like Jeremiah remembered his affliction and his wandering (Lam. 3:19), I believed that because of the Lords great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail (v. 22). As the prophet reassured himself of Gods past faithfulness, his words comforted me: The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him (v. 25).
That night, each person in our congregation represented a tangible expression of Gods life-transforming love. Whatever wed face in the years to come, as members of the interdependent body of Christ, we could rely on the Lord. And as we continue to seek Him and support one another, we can, as did Jeremiah, find our hope being ratified by faith-building memories of Gods unchanging character and dependability.
Lord, thank You for using our past to assure us our hope remains secure in Your everlasting faithfulness.
As we look ahead to the new year, lets remember that God has always been and always will be faithful.
In Lamentations 3, Jeremiah laments those who are persecuted for standing true to the Lord. He feels as if he himself has been plunged into darkness and chained as a prisoner (vv. 19). He has experienced attacks, abduction, and isolation, and has been scorned and pierced by his enemies (vv. 1015). Personal dignity and a sense of security have been painfully replaced with loneliness and sorrow (vv. 1620).
Yet within this valley of despair there is a greater reality that rises above the circumstances. As we reflect on the character of God we see He is always present in our situation and offers comfort and hope. Gods mercies are as certain as the rising of the sun each day (vv. 2123). In view of this inspiring truth, the living God truly is all that we need for any of lifes trials (v. 24).
As you think back over the past year, when have you experienced the faithfulness of God?

No progress at all.
I will probably have to wait until it thaws by itself, as I have tried everything.
AND...I still ache all over from the fall on the ice.
This is becoming a truly lousy winter for me.
However...the bright Spot is that we have a DIFFERENT President than we had LAST winter! And for that, I am grateful.

I did not have to work today. I ran a few errands, got a haircut and had an uneventful day. We're staying home tomorrow as we always do New Years Eve. We usually grill large steaks - a change of pace this year. We're having a Lobster and Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo for the main course.
