A biology professor from San Jose State University recently argued in several tweets that chromosomes dont determine sex.
The tweets were written in response to Texas State Representative Briscoe Cain, who had tweeted a picture of the XX and XY chromosomes as reminder of "how many genders there are."
A San Jose State University biology professor recently accused a Texas state legislator of being bigoted for tweeting that there are only two genders.
In case you forgot how many genders there are, Republican State Representative Briscoe Cain tweeted on December 21, attaching a picture of the XX and XY chromosomes.
"One thing I am not doing is arguing with someone whose basic premise is incorrect and tries to tell me that they know more about my science, in which I am an expert, than I do."
Describing herself as a geneticist, Rachael French replied to the tweet with an extended harangue in which she impugned Cains motives and derided his understanding of biology.

Ever person I had sex with was XX and I am XY. I am not confused about my male sex nor am I confused about what a female is!
Where do you think the grammatical concept of gender came from? It is a natural development based on our perception of the world... there are two biological genders, hence many early societies developed languages that contain gender.
In the biological sense, there are two genders. And that dichotomy extends from the simplest bacteria to the most complex multicellular organisms.
It is not true that chromosomes always determine gender. But in humans and, I think, in vertebrates in general, chromosomes always determine gender. It isn’t always XX female and XY male—in chickens (and maybe all birds), it is the opposite.
French is full of dung. Male and female. Period. Full stop. End of story.
Of the sociopsychological construct "gender", there are many.
...in which case they work tirelessly to fix science, even if it takes several generations. Sort of like the way they have equated sex and gender for so long that most people no longer recognize the difference.
I thought the same thing....
Thank you!
Even the “tiny incidence of genetic anomaly” have either male or female sex chromosomes, not both or neither. You have one or the other. “Gender” is being redefined by the political correct in a way that is not supported by any science. They are the ones who are anti-science, not the “climate deniers” on the right. They’re also denying climate change, by the way, by saying it isn’t natural. According to real science, it is.

Liberals love to claim the Bible and by extension Jesus is in error.
Matthew 19:4-6New King James Version (NKJV)
4 And He answered and said to them, Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female,
she must be a crackpot that tries to justify homosexual behavior as some sort of “helper neuter gender” for a gender that can not reproduce.
I think that the resistance to use “gender” to mean actual biological gender is a regional thing, not really based on a proper usage.
To me, “sex” refers to the act of procreation and related concepts. To use “sex” to refer to male or female is uncomfortable and awkward. It’s as bad as using that “p” word to refer to a kitty cat—which, in some dialects, is perfectly okay, but not in my dialect.
And the use of gender in language, in those languages that have it—people really do think of some objects as feminine, with feminine qualities, and others as masculine, with masculine qualities.
I think you are wrong. When I took biology, the word gender was never used. I heard it a lot in Spanish class, though.
I do hope this so called professor is not teaching any of your little darlings. What a disgrace to science.
This "professor" thinks mighty highly of him/herself.
I was recommended by my 9th grade biology teacher to go to honors’ bio. Seeing complete mind-boggling stupidity such as this makes me glad I chose earth science instead (not that I did well with that).

We’re well past Soviet levels of insanity. Under Hillary, we would have approached Soviet levels of repression as well. Thank God for President Trump.
