Santa Trump gave American taxpayers a gift that they should have been thrilled and thankful to receive. Yet polls starting from before the plan was actually passed show that Americans hated the idea of a tax cut.
Quinnipiacs poll, for instance, showed that just 25 percent of voters approved the plan. Other surveys by ABC News and The Washington Post, CNN, Morning Consult and YouGov put approval only slightly higher. But those were still nowhere near the support that past tax cuts received.
President Reagans first tax cut, in 1981, got a 51 percent approval rating. The 2001 tax cut by President George W. Bush got a 49 percent thumbs-up. An extension of the Bush cuts in 2010 got a 54 percent approval rating.
Even a tax hike in 1993 by President Clinton got a 34 percent approval rating.
Yet the average approval rating from all the polls for Trumps tax cut was only 32 percent.
I know why I opposed what the Republicans were doing. With the US already $20 trillion in debt, I think it was unconscionable for Washington to change the tax laws in a way that will increase that debt by $1.5 trillion over the next 10 years.
But Id be shocked if enough Americans took the long view like I did to bring the approval rating down to an average of just 32 percent.

It has caused a tremendous disturbance in the Democrat Borg Cube mind because leftist morons don’t believe the unwashed masses are capable of handling thier own lives. They won’t be at peace until the government manages every single aspect of thier miserable, helpless, victimized lives.
This hideous tax relief means people will have a little more of thier own money and the freedom to decide how it’s spent!! Or saved!! The horror!!
The poll results reflect cockeyed sampling and slanted questions. The actual support for the bill is above 50%. The MSM is using polls to influence public opinion, not to measure it. And that’s nothing new.
When a country is on the wrong side of the Laffer curve, as ours is, reducing taxes raises revenue.

Of course, the CBO will never agree. But the historical record shows that the Coolidge, Kennedy, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush tax cuts all resulted in increased revenue. They captured a smaller percentage of a larger and growing pie.
Yeah, I was worried too when obama added more to the deficit than all of the previous presidents combined. I think the additional 1.5T will be paid for by growth in GDP from tax cuts. Funny how some Rinos were concerned about increasing the deficit, but never said a damn thing when obama doubled it. Same for the Rats, theyre worried about increasing deficit, but not so much under obama. Anyone that thinks they dont need a tax reduction should send their tax savings to the IRS as a gift.
Because the media distorted the facts about the tax cut to the point that no one would want it, and then concocted a biased survey and misreported the confused results?
Socialists view tax cuts as stealing from government and their special pet peeve demographic groups.
Hubby put it like this: suppose I offer to give you $1000? What’s your response? OK, how about if I give you $1000, and this other guy gets $500? Now, how about if I give you $1000, but the other guy gets $1500? Hubby’s point was that most people are hypocritical in that they would fully support the first two options, but not the last, that they would feel cheated. It’s OK to get something, but not if somebody else might get more. Mind you, they’re O K if the other person gets less, just not them. They would completely disregard that they are getting something and focus on their perception that someone got more. He’s right. That’s what we’re seeing.
Exactly correct. The Big Lie was effective, but won’t prevent the actual increases in take home pay for over 80% of workers. Trump needs to point this out bigly, after the it shows up in checks. Then hammer the liars!!!!
Because the news sources they use have told them they should hate it.
The Republicans better start explaining why the individual income tax cuts expire in 10 years and corporate tax cuts Don’t.
They had to do that because of reconciliation, passage of laws with just a simple majority instead of 60 votes. That is known as the Byrd rule,me thinks they should just have gotten rid of the Byrd Rule, because the democrats are going to pound them with that, better come up with the proposal to extend all tax cuts now forever
Check out Ronald Reagan’s popularity numbers in 1982.
Very similar to Trump now.
The polls aren’t fake, the polled voters are stupid idiots who believe what they are told by the MSM, until their experience shows otherwise.
The polls will get worse before they get better, but as the economy produces visible results, they will get better again.
I despise the debt. Thought we'd be rid of some spending such as PBS by now. But I do get why this tax cut was necessary. At 20 trillion, the debt is unsustainable and well on its way to destroying the nation. This plan is a Hail Mary pass to turn the economy around. Without better paying jobs and higher GNP, there's no chance to bring the nation back. This might be the only way to have a chance to do that.
It was a poorly designed tax cut.
But yes, spending cuts are critical—and not what Congress wants to give Trump at all.
How dare they free the tax slaves before the next crop is ready to pick!
That isn’t actually a problem in that taxpayers shouldn’t have been subsidizing that market all along.
They should massively cut spending, which, yes, they could actually do just by ending fraud—but they won’t.
Bingo. Just look around.
Why are so many Americans angry about a tax cut?
Well you would have to be deaf dumb and blind not to know the answer to that!
The MSM. The Hate Trump Media ran an campaign against the tax cuts from day one! Every article every report they generated fore told Doom for the poor, Paradise for the Filthy Mean Rich. Day after day week after week this was slammed at the American people. It worked. The one problem for the MSM. A year from now when the tax cuts have worked and the poor have not all died off,it will be harder to seel the doom and gloom!
