GOP Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama, who chairs the Rules Committee, said further particulars cannot be made public, in order to respect the confidentiality afforded to victims.

“While the Rules Committee has been eager to provide this information in a transparent manner, it has been our priority to protect the victims involved in these settlements from further harm,” the senator said in a statement attending the report.

I’m afraid Shelby has been the master of tricking the gullible in AL!

“I came here to make one point. Accusers have to prove their accusations. It is basic american concept of due process.”

Transparency in spending taxpayer’s money is also a basic premise of American government. Paying hush-money out of public funds is grounds for dismissal, regardless of the validity of the accusations.

I don’t need any details other than the names of those who permitted these expenditures. All of them should be summarily fired and excluded from all benefits. If some nameless “committee” is in charge, then all of the members who voted to establish said committee should face the same fate.

That’s an insignificant amount to congress.

Any amount is "insignificant" to Congress...it's not THEIR money with which they play!!

Sen Shelby have to keep the senator and the $ amount paid to settle harassment claims to protect the victims what a load of BS this is to protect senators by keeping their name and taxpayers $ paid hidden from the people.

If they can’t force me to buy Obamacare then how can they force me to pay for Conyers and Franken?...or anything else for that matter?

I still want to know:
What law authorizes these payments and who must sign off on each one?

Thanks for posting. Government gone bad inside the republic.

- they have used our money to settle harassment claims of the citizenry.

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.” - Declaration

List of grievances ALERT.

Merry Christmas!

And a shout out “Alahwahoo Whackbar” to the junior Senator from Minnesota.
whose only sin this week is that he was just sexually hyperactive, now reformed, no resignation coming.

Since that's a real s*** excerpt, here's the details -- taxpayers have paid out $1.5 million since 1998, including sex, age, and race discrimination and FSLA and FMLA violations -- but the Senated doesn't keep records of the actual settlements, so there's really no breakdown of the number at all.

I will do my part to vote this RINO out.

He'll be 92 next time his seat is up. Do you really think he'll run again?

O-care mandate never was enforced, and I think you know what happens when you don't pay income tax. But I think you are asking if we should have to pay for their legal expenses. Hell no!

Ding_dong_daddy_from_Dumas - not Dumas, Texas?!? Man that place is the a-hole of the armpit of Texas! No offense intended if you are from there, but that explains why you live near Austin now! I mean even as bad as Austin is, it’s still better than Dumas - LOL! We almost moved to Sunray, Texas as an “upgrade” from Dumas - and there wasn’t much in Sunray except an old oil refinery and a veterinarian clinic!

Well, I have lived in Irving, Arlington, Dumas, Borger, Willis, San Antonio, Mabank and now in Fort Worth (not to mention all the other states and countries while in the Marines). Construction work has you moving!

Thank your son from this old Devil Dog!

No need for victim names, how about the predator?”””

Predators-—and the amounts.

Taxpayers have the right to know all these details. THEIR $$$ was used by these predators—without any taxpayer permission.

However, how many of those claims might be categorized "euphemistically" e.g. "sex harrassment" -> "sex discrimination?"

Exactly, anyone how has gone through the EEO process knows what a joke it is. Anyone can claim anything whenever they want.

In order to file a claim of discrimination you have to be one of a number of covered groups. The fastest way to list them is by looking at the only people who are not a covered group, white males under 45 years old (unless you are gay/trans or all those other ones). Every one else is covered.

Everyone knows that actual sexual harassment cases are rare. The vast majority of cases are for discrimination. Poor performing employees can and do use the EEO process as a weapon of intimidation. False claims are the norm and there is really no way to defend your self as the perception of the employee is more important than any actual evidence.

EEO is the first line of defense when an employee gets a bad performance review. Its a scam.

Once the case goes to arbitration you further loose the ability to defend yourself as the arbitrator gets to decide what facts they want to use.

The majority of the time these things are just quickly settled to get rid of the poor performing employee regardless of any facts.

Having said all that, I don't care. We need the names and we need them now. I don't feel sorry for any of these legislators.

THEY WROTE THE STUPID LAW now welcome to the party.

Don't want it to happen in the future? Then fix the damn thing.

There are some good people in Travis but they are overwhelmingly outnumbered. Mainly I did not want to be in the Austin school district.
