WASHINGTON Rep. Bill Flores (R-Texas) said he is willing to vote for a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers if its tied to additional border security measures and visa reform.
Weve heard several discussions about the struggles that are faced by DREAMers. I think its important to remember that the DREAMers didnt put themselves into the situation they find themselves in today; that happened because of the actions of others and because we have a set of laws that really doesnt fit their situation very well, so we as Congress need to address that, he said on a recent conference call with Christian DREAMers and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program beneficiaries organized by the National Immigration Forum and the Evangelical Immigration Table.
On one hand, the policy goal that President Obama put forth when he implemented the DACA program probably made sense, but the real challenge was it didnt fit the Constitution. (emphasis mine) Under Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution, it clearly says all actions related to immigration belong to Congress, so I think President Trump made a good decision when he said that the DACA program would have an end date, he added.

(Flores) said. The first element of this is something similar to the Recognizing Americas Children Act, or RAC Act, (which he co-sponsored) ...... his bill is going to address the border security concerns Americans have at this time. He is currently working to add co-sponsors to the legislation from both parties.
We want a secure border. We want a visa enforcement tracking system that works, so we work with our legislative team here at my office to come up with a bill that has all that done. ...... he said. We hope to introduce this bipartisan legislation very soon.

You can pass a bipartisan whatever, Republicans delusional as usual if you think Dems are even on board with your compromise.
I am out.
Telling us they are “Dreamers” is OFFENSIVE!
Wall wall wall wall wall!!!!!!!!!
Usual gubmint talk. Amnesty first, then no border security later.
Sadly, he may be right.
And yet, that really small group elected Trump to be president.
ESAD
No amnesty!! Zero zip nunca
The media’s narrative on “dreamers” works... until chain migration is brought up.
If that were true, Congressman, Hillary would have won in a landslide.
Your statement is false, and you know it.
I think I could support a compromise where the “Dreamers” become legal but without a path to citizenship unless they go home and re-enter legally. And that’s tied 100% to border security.
NO AMNESTY for ILLEGALS. What the hell is so difficult to understand? THEY ARE CRIMINALS...
And, no amount of RINO posturing or rationalizing or quid pro quo antics will EVER change that.
Deport them all. Secure the damn borders (all of them) and THEN we’ll talk about what a sane immigration policy should be.
These ‘poor unfoturnates’ would NOT be in this state of affairs if the damn government had been doing its job all along.
“I think its important to remember that the DREAMers didnt put themselves into the situation they find themselves in today”
BS. The American people did not do bring these illegals in, their parents did. The illegal alien “dreamers” can get the hell out, along with their parents. To hell with all of them.
One from that small group should propose legislation that permits the children of those convicted of property theft to keep the property obtained through that theft.
“Additional border security”? What does that mean? Hire a couple more border guards? I want to hear about building the wall!!
The court has already said that Obama exceeded his powers.
We will see how small it is when Flores is primaried out.
Mr Flores may get a challenge from the ‘large right’ that elected Trump in the 2018 primary.
Flores is acting like a Flake.
I don’t know the math, but it seems to me that a limited DACA Amnesty (say 800,000 - not 3M) in exchange for ending chain migration would be a victory for us...versus doing nothing on either.
...but obviously there are many Republicans ready to support a large Amnesty in exchange for a ‘promise’ to ‘discuss’ chain migration from Schumer.
exactly. and just like everything else the feds do how can this really be enforced because there are so many open holes for fraud.
