Sometimes there can be an unexpected yet undeniable 'disturbance in the force' of our politics where one event or image seems to quietly and quickly shift the entire axis of momentum. We saw it in 2012, when the love-fest between Chris Christie and Barack Obama on the tarmac after Super-Storm Sandy, including the the iconic hug, seemed to realign the stars in what seemed like a sure Mitt Romney victory. I could feel it happening at the time, and I suspect that many of you could, too. We were right.
I felt the same thing a couple days ago, as President Trump, surrounded by Republicans whom he suddenly seemed to like, and who suddenly seemed to like him, celebrated the sweeping tax reform and tax cut bill victory. Just a week earlier, the Republican Party and the president were smarting from an internally self-inflicted wound in Alabama. That was a bottoming out. The shift was palpable. It was in the air. Did you feel it?
The Democrats did, and they immediately went into a deeper apoplexy than normal. They understood it on a certain level. More on that later.
For now, it was as if this dysfunctional GOP team, with a coach who didn't want to coach and two quarterbacks still awaiting spine donors, finally figured out what has been true for the entire history of our nation.
Politics is a team sport.

I think Ryan and McConnell are discovering that the people are with the Donald and not them.
McConnell has already surrendered any plans to be productive next year. Who could have seen this coming?
As for Ryan, I don’t think he has any idea what he wants to do other than obstruct.
“Politics is a team sport.”
Yeah, but the team has been throwing the game. We are tired of not winning any games.
They didn’t know how to win. It was so rare, they thought it impossible. They pulled together, and in spite of the boobirds, dirty refs, and bench sitters, followed Trump. Took a big breath, jumped off the building, learned to fly on the way down.
And won.
And it feels pretty good, eh?
The smiles and joy and euphoria at that presser was real, and well deserved. And they all gave the Coach credit. They are now, for the first time in 2 generations, a team. That can, and did, WIN!!!
Winning is contageous. There is no feeling like it. Period. It makes you want to keep winning, badly. It drives people like no other kind of motivation there is. For people who have never experienced it, who only experience was losing, it is life changing.
They are now going to be completely behind the Coach, and do what it takes to keep winning.
For the first time, they trust each other, and the Coach. Powerful things are happening. THIS is what leadership looks like.
Ain’t it grand?
MAGA!!!!!!!!
Excellently done, Basket.
You're Knute Rockne.
(I almost ran out the door like John Belushi in Animal House.)
I’m not convinced that RINO Republicans, who WANT to be in the political minority, really do believe in, finally, working together with Conservative Republicans!
Trump cuckolded Ryan and Mitch to such a degree of humiliation that they ultimately came out worshiping him.
In his act of cukolding, Trump’s enemies see he is everything they are not - strong, decisive, beloved, Alpha Male
Carrot and stick. Trump and Alabama.
Trump’s successes these past few months have prompted Ryan and McConnell to get on board or loose their cushy positions.
Ryan doesn’t even want his job as House Speaker. Anything we get out of him is a bonus.
Thinks are not always what they seem.
No C. Edmond. The coup failed and the culprits are seeking sanctuary. :-)
As for Ryan, I dont think he has any idea what he wants to do other than obstruct.””
IMO, Leopards do not change their spots. I am done with Ryan. I think that when he got named as Romney’s running mate, it all went to his head.
Trump, McConnell, Ryan Discover Politics Is Team Sport
Team sport my butt. It is the aristocrats of government against the American people.
It is not what the government can do for you but what will the government do TO you. An they have done plenty.
That seems to be true.
Wish hed step down now.
You may be right.
I cannot grasp the thinking of Leftist Republicans.
Why didnt they register as a Democrat and be done with it?
