From the report: """As far as exactly what they were doing, we will be talking with them and finding that out," Dinh-Zarr said. It is standard protocol at the NTSB to look at all of the cell phone records of all the crew members after an accident, she said.""

---

Yes, many people will want to know what the engineer and conductor were doing. It is quite obvious they were NOT doing their job.

Before we get driverless cars on the road...perhaps we should have driverless trains...that automatically slow down when they’re supposed to.

In a related story:

“”Preliminary information indicated that the emergency brake on the Amtrak train that derailed in Washington state went off automatically and was not manually activated by the engineer, National Transportation Safety Board member Bella Dinh-Zarr said.””

I can see monotony and distraction affecting train engineers. You don’t have to steer. Why watch out what’s ahead? You can’t stop the train quick enough to avoid hitting whatever you see.

You could say the same for airplane pilots.

Regarding the automatic speed control mechanism that’s being deployed, and referred to as very expensive, I mentioned earlier that my car GPS tells me the speed of the car and the speed limit. A GPS-based speed control mechanism seems like it would be cheap.

“”Amtrak President and CEO Richard Anderson said the NTSB investigation will determine whether positive train control would have prevented the crash.””

Lots of attempts to divert attention from gross incompetence or negligence on the part of Amtrak employees by constantly raising the ‘positive train control’ card.

The public needs to be asking questions like: “Exactly, how many locations between Seattle and Portland require the engineer to slow down or sound the whistle?”

This accident was another example of gross incompetence by government workers and managers.

First red flag, that name. Bella Dinn-Zarr. Don’t expect anything less than Orwellian out of that one if she’s even capable of rising to that level. Sounds like the hellspawn of Bella Abzug and Howard Zinn with a hyphenated surname added in for even more progressive goodness. So, it’s genetic.

Second, they’re going to stonewall like crazy about this “conductor” being with the engineer, I’m getting strong vibes that they were engaging in politically protected activities.

A conductor "who was getting experience and familiarizing himself with the territory

You have got to know the territory ! Reminds me of this song from The Music Man.

What were they doing ? I am guessing one of them was blowing the whistle. I mean after all danger did lie ahead.

So it’s been a couple days and I’ve seen no names or photos of who was running the train. I guess it’s the train’s fault.

From another report: “”The bypass underwent testing by Sound Transit and Amtrak beginning in January and at least until July, according to documents on the Washington Department of Transportation website.””

https://www.yahoo.com/news/deadly-train-derailment-silence-then-screams-081821524.html

So Amtrak has been testing the bypass route for almost one year and then on the first day of actual service they manage to run the train off the tracks and kill three people, injure many, and disrupt traffic for hundreds of thousands.

DRAIN THE SWAMP!!!!!

Commuter airlines flying fewer passengers per plane have a pilot and a co-pilot.

Why not have two engineers on a train?

Sorry, what was I thinking? That would invite more grab-ass and more chance for accidents.

Sounds a lot like the crash in Phila a couple years back. That gay engineer never got in trouble either.

I am wondering if ANY pre-runs were done by this group. That curve is very obviously NOT an 80 MPH curve.

Even the people running the Baja 1000 do PRE RUNNING.
