GOP's Shelby played key role in Alabama Democrat's victory

Credit six-term Republican Sen. Richard Shelby for Democrat Doug Jones’ shocking win in Alabama, senators from both parties said Wednesday.

Shelby, Alabama’s senior senator and the state’s most influential official, publicly opposed GOP nominee Roy Moore and declared before the election that ”the state of Alabama deserves better” than a former judge accused of sexual contact with teenage girls decades ago.

A former Democrat, Shelby, 83, announced weeks before the election that he had already cast an absentee ballot for another, unspecified Republican, even as President Donald Trump and other prominent state Republicans stood up for Moore.

“I give the Alabama voters a lot of credit for the courage in rejecting Roy Moore’s candidacy and I think Sen. Shelby deserves a lot of credit for speaking out and encouraging people to write-in a Republican candidate” other than Moore, said Sen. Susan Collins, a Maine Republican who also opposed Moore.

“I think it’s very telling that there were more write-in ballots cast than the margin of victory,” Collins said Wednesday. …

“...The correct decision was to vote for Moore, if anything was actually proved he could have been replaced with a Conservative.;;;”

Absolutely.

I don’t know if the ballots are saved.

The Supreme Court of AL said they did not have to save them, but there is a court hearing for the plaintiffs scheduled for next week.

So even though the case is still in process, the probate judges are not required to save anything.

The case may wind up being moot, as in, OK save the ballots, and sorry they’re gone.

Justice served as usual.

“Credit six-term Republican Sen. Richard Shelby for Democrat Doug Jones’ shocking win in Alabama, senators from both parties said Wednesday.”

Let me fix the paragraph.

Credit six-term Republican, and 25 YEAR DEMOCTRAT Sen. Richard Shelby for Democrat Doug Jones’ shocking win in Alabama, senators from both parties said Wednesday. For twenty five long years this traitor was an elected democrat. He despises Moore because he’s an Evangelical Christian, not some phony ass RINO like the backstabbing Shelby.

The Elite Republicans will be the death of the Republican Party. Trump supporters will support people who are going to support Trump! Just because you might have an R next to your name, we aren’t fooled any more. The R could stand for Retired by the Voters..

For what it's worth to you....

http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/news/politics/2017/12/12/alabama-wont-keep-digital-voting-records-after-special-election/944775001/

Digital scans of the ballots cast in Alabama's special
election will not be stored after the polls close Tuesday.

That decision came down from the Alabama Supreme Court which
issued a stay Monday, the day prior to the election,
overturning a same-day circuit court decision that had
required the state to preserve all digital voting records
post-election.

Currently, the paper ballots are saved for 22 months after
federal elections and six months after local elections.

Roy Moore was not an unknown in AL ...

That was apparently part of his problem. His track record in Alabama elections was mediocre at best. He also antagonized a lot of people in state GOP politics along the way. He lost the GOP primary for the governor's race in 2006 by a wide margin but threw a temper tantrum and refused to endorse the Republican nominee. Then he came in fourth place in the 2010 GOP primary for governor.

With that kind of track record, I'm actually surprised the guy ever managed to win the GOP primary in this special election at all.

Headline: "Credit six-term Republican Sen. Richard Shelby for Democrat Doug Jones’ shocking win in Alabama ..."

And here exactly illustrates the problem. Six terms times six years each equals 36 years !!! More than enough time to become ingrained into the comfortable D.C. elite culture.

I used to be on the fence about term-limits, but not anymore ... TERM LIMITS NOW !!! Drain the swamp periodically .... America will be better off as a whole if this is done on a regularly scheduled basis ....

“Because perverts don’t quit perverting, . . .”

Coincidentally evidence of this phenomenon appeared in the newspaper today. Dennis Hastert has been barred by a judge from being alone with children:

Shelby is like my old aluminum ladder with one slightly twisted leg. It holds up most of the time, except when I really need it for something up high - then it twists and dumps me on the ground.

Anybody else remember when he was the key vote that killed tort reform?

Prediction: The rats will win both houses easily next year due to disgusted republican voters staying home. After all, why should we vote for them when they are ecstatic about losing a senate seat they should have won easily? They will then impeach the President, and the remaining repubs, including Shelby, will let them (since that is apparently their plan to rid themselves of a President they loathe).

We need to be thinking about how we will respond to this.

“Don’t forget that Shelby was once a Democrat or as they were known then as Dixiecrats.”

And Blue Dog Democrats. I could go for some Blue Dog democrats, or Reagan Democrats.

They acted like Americans.

I grew up in a small manufacturing town in Iowa, very conservative, basically a 50/50 republican and democrat town.

The democrats I speak of are no longer allowed to be democrats....

"Shelby was just re-elected in 2016. I’d be surprised if he has any intention of running again in 2022."

Yup. This must be his last term. He's toast anyway.
