Alabama votes on Tuesday in a special election to fill the Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, now the attorney general. The last polls close at 8 p.m. Eastern. Strong support for Roy S. Moore, the Republican, is expected in rural, mostly white parts of the state and in its northern half. The Democrat, Doug Jones, aims to create a lead in the urban counties that include Birmingham and Montgomery, and across a band of largely black counties.
One critical battleground is a trio of smaller, whiter cities: Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Huntsville. Mr. Moore won a hard race in 2012 by keeping things close there. Mr. Jones hopes to win the cities by a convincing margin.

Who was it that fought to destroy the paper trail for the voting machines?
Funny, if I were to destroy records in a civil or criminal case, or a tax case, you can be sure that the authorities would not be happy.
But records which can be used to audit electronic voting machines? NOT NECESSARY! LOL!
It doesn’t appear that there will be. The margin of victory would have to be within .5% of the vote total, which would come to somewhere around 6500 votes. Jones’ lead is larger than that.
20000 votes, and no paper trail for the machines
Unreal.
Lets hope the Rats overplay their hand, and shut down the Gov’t if Jones not immediately seated, or something like that ...
Is the governor anti-Trump? That's the only reason I can think of.
Correct. The race was very close and neither candidate got over 50% of the votes.
They did. The former GOP Governor appointed the State AG Luther Strange.
Long story. It is a mess. Bentley appointed LS to get him off his back. Well, that tied LS to the Gov, who resigned shortly thereafter.
LS ran in the primary with Moore and Rep. Mo Brooks. It was mudslinging between Strange and Brooks. Moore stayed in the background, kind of like he did this past week. Trump had endorsed Strange. There was then a runoff between Strange and Moore. Moore won the runoff. Voila.
Murkowski and Collins and Snowe will be emboldened
We used a paper ballot at our precinct. Maybe they are talking about the tallies that the machines take from the paper ballots??? Not sure.
Stupid crystal ball!
Not sure, either.
I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Face facts
Yeah. :(
How many divisions do they have?
Is it just me or is it odd there is no exit results of any substance. I think it’s going to be a landslide for Moore. I am planning to sell off my property in the next several years, can’t take the brutal winters anymore. Anybody can give me recommendations for coastal communities in Alabama?
Sorry, but Eff Brit Hume, he’s a mealy mouth eunuch!
Jones will win. I’m sick but we should have tossed Moore out.
A liberal senator just won in a state where Trump won by 28 percent in a campaign engineered by the democrats and GOPe and big media to take down a hard right Christian conservative in arguably the most conservative white voting electorate in the nation
They can do that with a POTUS candidate too with this playbook
They tried it with Trump and failed
I never thought I’d see white Alabamans vote for such a liberal
This is a big deal if not for that alone......southern electorate is turned on its head tonight
That’s my electorate and one I know well
It shows old southerners like me and the gen x and y southerners are diverged
And that sure doesn’t help conservatism
Were it a yellow dog it would be less shocking
I know you are not a culture warrior in particular but our fight for America is culture and demographics and Jones win is a major defeat for Trump agenda
It will help the GOPe check trump even more now
And so much at stake ...in just a year
I do agree that Jones likely won’t last but by then maybe Bredesen wins Tennessee and he is more centrist though still. Democrat
Bredesen is popular with the same soccer mom suburbans who went for Jones
It’s a major defeat and could have ominous implications the remainder of Trumps term
Nothing short of that
I’m not saying anything Laura Ingraham didn’t just say and I respect her
