~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort or MCAS Beaufort is a United States Marine Corps air base located three miles 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) northwest of the central business district of Beaufort, a city in Beaufort County, South Carolina, United States. About 4,700 personnel serve at the station, and it is home to six Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet fighter-attack squadrons.
Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, home of the Marine Corps' Atlantic Coast fixed-wing, fighter-attack aircraft assets, is located in the heart of the South Carolina Lowcountry and is among the United States military's most important and most historically colorful installations. Fightertown's Hornet squadrons rotate overseas regularly, either for deployments to support Operation Inherent Resolve, for six month Western Pacific deployments or aboard Navy aircraft carriers. At any given time, up to half the squadrons may be found at various points around the globe, and are routinely called into action when the Commander in Chief requires airborne strikes or support for ground forces. Most recently, squadrons have seen combat in the skies over Iraq and Syria. Formerly home to USMC F-8 Crusader and F-4 Phantom II operations, MCAS Beaufort currently hosts all active duty USMC F/A-18 air operations on the East Coast, said aircraft and squadrons being assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 31 (MAG-31). The mission of MCAS Beaufort is to provide support as an operational base for MAG-31 and its associated squadrons. Learn More About MCAS Beaufort HERE!! FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT~Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
Please remember: The Canteen is a place to honor and entertain our troops. The Canteen is family friendly. Let's have fun! We pray for your continued strength, to be strong in the face of adversity. We pray for your safety, that you will return to your families and friends soon. We pray that your hope, courage, and dignity remain unbroken, so that you may show others the way. I wish that, too, but we are just about ready. Just need to load the car and make sure we haven’t forgotten anything. Though, we’ll just be gone a couple of days, so we won’t miss what we forgot. [and I DO have my toothbrush. :) ]
Hubby’s brother can’t go. The doctor thought it would be too risky for him, given his health issues. I know he must feel bad about it.

Aw man! It’s a shame his brother isn’t able to go. :-(
You KNOW he feels bad about it but some things can’t be helped. Still stinks because this was his mother.

Indeed and he hadn’t seen her as much as he used to before he got so sick. I think their son is going and will try to Facetime with them at the service so they can sort of be there.
David called. He said he had a much less exciting day today and was able to keep going, because the car wasn’t as bad off as he thought. He and his dad have been talking for more than an hour. He’s usually so quiet, too. LOL!

I hope their son does make it there. Not having a cell phone, I didn’t think about Facetime. That would be a great way for them to be able to participate.
Glad to hear David didn’t have any more excitement today. And great news that yesterday’s damage wasn’t as bad as he feared. Does it look like he’ll be able to make it to OK in time for the service?

He will have time to get there sometime tomorrow afternoon. He’s about 300 miles away...whereas we are 450 miles away. He might even beat us.
I always dread that drive. I get very restless sitting still for so many hours. Actually, I stop a lot...which drives hubby nuts. I’m really glad that I have someone to visit the kitties. That is always a concern!

Wow! He’s that close already? Cool. It does sound like he’ll get there before y’all do, unless he sleeps in a bit and starts out later. He’s probably whipped already.
Y’all have a long day ahead, no doubt. That’s a long haul for one day.
At least you won’t have to worry about the cats while you’re gone. Knowing they’ll be in good hands is always a comfort, and you’ll have more than enough on your mind.

Well, he thought he’d never get through Denver [he’s gotten used to little Jackson Hole], but he made good time. They are wide open roads so not hard to make time.
It is a long way and a lot of it is on pretty remote roads with not much to look at. Thank goodness I can listen to Rush or some nice smooth jazz on XM radio! LOL! I hate the reason for going, but am looking forward to seeing hubby’s cousins again and of course, David.
Dulcie would like that we’re together. She so wanted to go back to MO for the annual reunion this year, bless her heart.

Good time indeed. I thought he’d have a lot farther to go tomorrow.
Denver must have been a nightmare after being in Jackson Hole this long. That’s a nice little town.
I’ve not been in your neck o’ the woods but Hubby has and he’s mentioned how little there is to look at while travelling along the highways. But some good music or Rush should make things just fine. LOL
It’s a shame Dulcie wasn’t able to make it to the reunion this year. It would have been nice if she could have seen everyone one more time. Of course, no one expected this to happen quite so soon.

I kind of did, too but glad he’ll get there early and he can rest up before we get there.
I’ll be going to bed before too long. Have to be up early in the morning so I don’t have to drive after dark. I’m not good at it. LOL!
See ya whenever I can! Have a good day tomorrow and I hope your little galz will be all better by then!

He’ll have time to take a nap before y’all arrive. He’ll probably need it too.
Get a good, sound sleep tonight. Prayers for a safe trip for you and everyone else traveling there.
With luck, the girlies will all be feeling much better by morning. Holli ate a decent supper this evening and Sophie nibbled a little dry food not long ago. I finger-fed a little chicken baby food to Lorien a few minutes ago. If that stays down, and it should, I’ll feed her more shortly.
I’m not fretting about them nearly as much tonight as I was over the weekend.
See ya when ya get back.

Got my own roadtrip today!
It would be a fun one...
....to see family...
....but the main reason for it is a sad one.
We will say goodbye to my sweet MIL.
Her cheerful smile and giggle are missed so much!
I hope all of you have a Terrific Tuesday!
And don't work too hard already!
Stop to smell the roses...
...if they aren't frozen already. :)
((((hugs))))
