Is that Hanoi Janey?
Yeh because nothing screams urban living like a bunch of mountain lions lurking around the yard. LOL!
Still, it would be far easier, far faster, far less costly, and far more practical to relocate P22 to some new area rather than build a new animal crossing and invite more critters to Griffith Park.
From The Mountain Lion Foundation: Mountain lions are solitary unless mating or parenting and maintain territories that average 100 square miles in size. Lions mark their territories by clawing trees and urinating on scratch piles of dry leaves, grass or pine needles. They will fight other lions, even to the death, to protect their territory. A female with kittens will move to a new den site within her territory every few weeks to protect her kittens from predators and male lions.
That’s an area of 10 miles by 10 miles for one cat! My wife spotted one on a hike this summer. I haven’t been that lucky. We spotted a bobcat on another hike this summer, but I only caught a brief glimpse of it moving into the brush beside the trail.
Born free!
And life is worth living!
It’s worth about $50,000,000.
Just not the same.
LOL. That always cracks me up!
Mountain Lions are really noble until they kill and eat some little girl’s pet.
6-year-old boy seriously hurt when a mountain lion bit him on the head and neck and dragged him into some brush Sunday near Cupertino was released from a hospital today in good condition, authorities said.
The boy was discharged this morning from Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, a day after he was admitted in serious condition to the center's pediatric trauma unit. He quickly improved to fair and then good condition, hospital spokeswoman Joy Alexiou said.
The boy was hiking about 10 feet in front of his family at the Picchetti Ranch Zinfandel Trail in the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District when the mountain lion jumped and attacked him from a hidden position, according to Lt. Patrick Foy of the law enforcement division of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The lion bit down firmly on the boy's neck and head and started to drag him away into some brush, Foy said.
Two men ran toward the lion while shouting aggressively and the cat let the boy go and ran away, according to Foy.
If someone wants to donate money to save the cats, it’s their money, and I can think of worse causes to donate to.
I know the Santa Monica mountains well
Very nice Very remote. Nobody ever there
I particularly like the chamberlain trail and the boney mountains wilderness
That lion should have stayed put but it’s not in their nature
Malibu is right below (sycamore canyon )
Of course I bike it although it’s not allowed
The mountain lions/cougars out here are solitary creatures that hunt/eat deer and small game and avoid humans, livestock behind fences, etc-but a pet cat or dog running loose is a takeout meal for them.
They can be heard vocalizing at night, especially in the Spring-and I see their tracks when I’m hiking the trail between the woods at the foot of a limestone bluff and the river-so why wouldn’t mountain lions trapped in LA be happier if they were tranquilized, packed up, taken back into the forest and released? It would be a lot cheaper than those millions and I’m sure lonely guy P22 would find a female in his natural habitat-it isn’t like he is going to get a cabbie to take him to where the pavement princesses are so he can hire one for the night...
If the cat is wandering loose in the mountain lion’s dining room, it is fair game-there are few loose dogs or cats seen out here because people know what will happen to them. Likewise, don’t hike alone on trails where you see lion tracks-back out making a lot of noise and find another trail-and never, ever run or jog unless you want to be on the menu-always best to use common sense when in wild animal territory...
The answer is simple. Depopulate the Hollywood hills and turn it into a wildlife refuge.
I’m sure all the Hollywood libs will think that’s a grand idea. Won’t they?
Get ready to be called some ugly names.
After you find your dog's head detached from it's body you become less sentimental about mountain lions and more convinced that they should not be in people's back yards.
Do they go through Griffith Park to get to another larger area or is it a dead end?
What I meant was if theyre not going to create a Corredor so the animals can go in and out, then its yet another opportunity for Californians to waste a lot of money.
I know.
