NFL commissioner Roger Goodell signs five-year extension
ESPN ^ | December 6, 2017

Roger Goodell has signed a five-year contract extension to remain the commissioner of the NFL, according to a letter obtained by ESPN.

A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the new contract would be worth $200 million over the life of the contract -- about $40 million annually -- if owners approve all the bonuses and all the incentives are met.

Is what Roger Goodell does really worth 200 million? Mark Levin offered to do the job for $5 million per year and would do a better job.

Can you tell me who won the NBA championship in 2017?....................

The Warriors. I don't like the tats and the Spurs coach is a lefty, but the NBA is doing great. The 3-point shot has made it a prettier game than back in my day. And it's not rigged since they got caught.

Wish we could've seen West, Maravich, Oscar shooting 3's.

At least the NBA has a bunch of good Euro players who can play sound fundamental basketball.

She never has to work again.

Depends on how you define "work". If you know what I mean...

”Can you tell me who won the NBA championship in 2017?”

Nope. I left the NBA in the rearview mirror when they became nothing more than a gang of tattooed thugs, and also because the game simultaneously traded finesse and skill for brute force. The NFL is going down a similar road. This whole mess boils down to Goodell and the owners being unwilling to push back against a ghetto mentality that has overtaken the league, because they are afraid of being called “racists.” That’s it. That’s all there is to this...cowardice and submission to PC idiocy.

I started noticing this trend of ghettoizing culture with “I’m lovin’ it”, and it’s now metastasized to the point where it’s about to cause America’s formerly favorite sport to implode. I really have to wonder how much farther people will permit our culture to self-destruct just to avoid being called a name.

“It’s kind of like mass suicide. The NFL is so dysfunctional that the owners aren’t capable of identifying and solving their problems. Instead, they’re addicted to Goodell,”

I think the owners are content with taking the tax writeoff for a few years before shutting down entirely. The other thing the owners can be doing is letting everything go to crap so the next union negotiation will start with, “attendance is down 80% since the Colon took a knee. The highest salary will be 250,000 dollars and only 1 year contracts will be written.”

“Recently he’s done a terrible job. Before that he brought a lot of money into the NFL.”

Football is fun to watch. The NFL was popular because people enjoyed watching football, not because of Goodell. The improved camera technology and big screen TV’s made watching an NFL game a great time.

Almost every decision Goodell made has been a bad one. From the unnecessary hiring of bad replacement refs to the terrible discipline decisions to the encouraging disrespect for our flag and country Goodell has made one terrible decision after another.

He has managed to make America’s most popular sport unpopular.

Had to think about it. Up until a few months ago I thought Ewing was still on the Knicks.

As for the NFL, in 5 years they will be lucky to fill up a high school stadium.

I was shocked to learn that the NFL Commissioner’s pay was in that range, far greater than any player. Would have guessed the pay was around five million per year. Looks like they’re going to pay him what he wants so he can steadily reduce the value of their franchises and the league as a whole.

Wonder how this will affect colleges/unis?

They’ve already got a bullseye on them if that tax on endowments is still in the tax bill. If the NFL takes a dirt nap, will NCAAF schools still be able to draw high quality players to keep revenue and donations coming in...

>>>There won’t be an NFL in 5 years........

Sadly, you are very much mistaken. The NFL will still be around for the 2022 season. It's not going to die that soon. There are simply too many people still willing to pay money to watch the games, even here on FR. The decline in viewership will bottom out in the next year or two.

Are the glory days over? For sure. The days of peak revenue are certainly past. But it's not going away anytime soon.

It will be more like boxing, it’s still around, but has been in steady decline since the 80s.

“We could see the meteoric rise of the National Powder Puff League or the NPPL.”

It would probably be better and more realistic than what the NFL devolved into over the years. Seriously, all of the rules allow a ref to call a penalty on almost any play. You can’t tell me that that isn’t for TV broadcast purposes. The refs can control the flow of a game and magically insure a vast majority of the games fit into a 3.5 hour time slot.

Pre and post game shows almost felt like a frigging soap opera last time I watched (2011ish).

The players are, for the most part, assholes for lack of better terms. They’ve never been saints and I don’t expect them to be saints. It’s frigging football. These players seem to think they’re perfumed princes these days though and better than mere mortals.

I’d actually like to see what some of these scumbags have gotten away with over the years (scum like Ben Roethlisberger to be specific ... that log head rapist would be in jail if it were for his ability to throw a frigging integrated oval several yards).

Between taxpayer funded game show studios and this news that the scumbag “comish” gets a salary equivalent to the price of some stadiums, I hope the league collapses and burns to the ground. The country would be better off without it.
