The Bureau of Land Management is auctioning off 10 million acres worth of leases Wednesday for oil and gas exploration in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A), 150 miles west of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).
Republicans in Congress are fighting to open ANWR to oil and gas exploration through the GOP tax bill. The Trump administration is moving ahead with oil drilling in Alaska through the NPR-A, 23 million acres free from the federal restrictions that cover ANWR.
The 10-million-acre lease offering will be the largest single lease sale in the history of the area. The previous record was set in 2004 when 5.8 million acres was offered for leases, the Alaska Journal of Commerce reports. The latest lease sale in 2016 brought in $18.8 million for 1.4 million acres.

Over-supply must at some point lower prices at the pump.
What that does to production seems negative to me.
Some balance will be realized. Where that settles is above my pay grade.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see those new lands untapped for a period of time.

I would have to urge producers to be careful about waiting too long to get a foothold up there.
The next Democrat will still be walking down Pennsylvania Avenue when he tries to reverse Trump move here.

Exactly what we need! Every drop of oil drilled in America means one less drop from Saudi Arabia or Venezuela. Our money shouldn’t be going to fund those barbarian governments under any circumstances. Energy independence is the key to liberating America.

There are nations that have advanced industrial economies. There are other nations that have abundant natural resources. And some nations have a lot of oil and natural gas.
Very few, probably less than five, have all three. And we are lucky enough to be one of them. Trump realizes this is our strength and he is playing to it, much to the despair of the global elites who would rather restrict or exploit it for their own ends.

In the back of my head I still think of these resources as strategic assets. I don’t like the idea of selling them off cheap.
I will say that if an added fee could be dedicated solely to paying down the national debt, it would certainly ease concerns a bit.

After all, what other country does not utilize its natural resources?
What a great move.
Looks like Rick Perry has been quietly busy.

1. We still import about half of our oil, so we can still increase domestic production.
2. Not all of that oil will be used in America; since the ban on exporting our oil has been lifted, I would guess a fair amount of the Alaska oil will be shipped to Japan.
3. Either way, it substantially helps our foreign balance of payments.
4. But our exports should not be based on a “extractive economy;” we still need to stop importing so many manufactured goods and start exporting more;
5. Trump realizes that we will never compete with the world on labor costs, so the answer is cheap, abundant domestic energy to fuel an industrial economy, which very few other countries can do.
And that’s his plan for MAGA in a nutshell. It also happens to be the polar opposite of the previous regime in both method and goal.

“will be the largest single lease sale in the history of the area.”
Also, the largest oil lease sale in American history has just been launched in the Gulf of Mexico.
American energy dominance - changing the world.
