Last time I watched the Olympics was 1980. Something just went south for me watching it.

My wife still loves it, but I just cannot watch it.

Well.

My chances of winning a gold medal in figure skating just went up.

I’ll have to get my skis sharpened.

Conspiracy theory:
The Winter Olympics are being held in South Korea.
Russia is becoming an influential figure in the North Korean crisis.
Russia just got kicked out of the Winter Olympics.
In retaliation, Russia might just induce something...catastrophic...to the Winter Olympics.

Just a thought.

Does it matter?

Guys with their entire regalia can compete as women. Doping is pretty much 100% — Russia just got caught.

Just as this year is the beginning of the ed of the FL, likewise this is the beginning of the end of the Olympics.

Is Crimea represented in the Olympics?
One’s nationality can be a very flexible term.

everyone is doping at the olympics...

the only difference is... the US uses the latest drugs that haven’t been made illegal yet and/or uses the latest techniques to outsmart the tests which haven’t been fixed yet.

Just look at the eyes of ANY sprinter just a minute before a race and you will see someone higher than a kite.

Honestly, the vast majority of elite athletes use performance enhancing drugs, whether it’s blood doping, steroids, or workout supplements etc.

The IOC is clearly doing this to put political pressure on Russia, and it likely has very little to do with their athletic practices. Even in pro sports in the US, upwards of 90% of athletes are on something.

It’s just difficult to catch them usually, since the cheating technology is years ahead of the masking technology.

Re: “The cheating technology is years ahead of the masking technology.”

I’m not a scientist, but I find that hard to believe.

Detection of illegal substances is made in “parts-per-million.”

And, every known masking agent is also illegal and tested for.

They even do blood cell counts.

Not Good— May not be an Olympics—maybe it should go the way of the NFL.

I was going to ask you where you got your evidence, but by your own admission, you don't have any.

Doping here is on an individual basis. Not State-sponsored, State-sanctioned, State-run and Systematic the way it is in Russia. Please do research as it will clue you into how Putin runs his entire country. period. Not just sports.

Also, when our athletes are caught - they are penalized, do apology tours or press conferences coming clean about the deed, lost sponsorships etc...

You will NEVER EVER see the Kremlin arrange similar acts of public penance for their athletes to take part in.

They not only continued to cheat after multiple warnings, but just got more elaborate about it. Whistleblowers are either living in exile aa a result and two have mysteriously died.

Deny. Deny. Deny. That is the Kremlin rule for themselves and their athletes...and its up to the Russian people to decide whether they are going to continue letting a mafia rule their country loyal to only to themsleves and each other even at the expense of the country’s interests.

Agreed. It is likely they putting the screws on Russia for something that we are not (yet) aware of.

Last time I watched the Olympics was 1980. Something just went south for me watching it.

I stopped watching the minute they started letting professional players into the Olympics. I know that the commie teams were all pros but the US always did well in both summer and winter games and the winning was so much sweeter knowing our true amateurs were better than their pros.

Now it is just garbage as it is just pro sports writ large. I do watch Curling. Ever since I started watching it while stationed in North Dakota I became a fan and there is yet a push to professionalize that game.

Best Winter Olympics ever? Innsbrook Austria 1976, Franz Klammer downhill run (no painting the course in those days) and Dorothy Hamill, yum, figure skating.
