The Democrats’ Dangerous Obsession With Impeachment
New Republic ^ | December 5,2017 | Jeet Heer

Posted on 12/05/2017 9:01:09 AM PST by Hojczyk

Democrats win the House of Representatives in 2018 and have the necessary votes for impeachment. But even in that best-case scenario, in which Democrats win every toss-up race for the Senate, they would still be well short of the votes they need in the Senate. Which means that kicking Trump out of the White House by necessity has to be a bipartisan effort with significant Republican buy-in.

The most promising route for stopping Trump, then, is through the ballot box. Democrats need a convincing platform and effective organization to win elections at every level. If the party can win back Congress in 2018, it can immediately start hamstringing Trump’s presidency without resorting to the unlikely path of impeachment. Democrats can launch investigations into Trump’s many improper acts. They can stall his nominees, especially in the courts. They can also start laying down rules for reining in the imperial presidency, including the thermonuclear monarchy, so that no future commander-in-chief has the dangerous power Trump possesses.

Impeachment fetishists seem to think that the overriding problem of American politics is that Trump is president. By this analysis, the president is a dangerous outlier whose removal would restore America to normality. But the problem isn’t just Trump; it’s also the Republican Party. Trump is only dangerous because he’s the standard-bearer of a party that has unified control of the government and is willing to stand by Trump no matter what. A Democratic agenda of reining in presidential power will give more lasting victories than mere impeachment, which is unlikely to succeed and would only address a symptom, not the cause, of the cancer that’s ravaging American politics.

According to Maxine Waters, once Trump is impeached it's on to Mike Pence (then Paul Ryan?)

But can't take this personally, they would go after ANYONE with an "R" next to their name, even if it was Jeb "Please Clap" Bush or "Crazy" John Kasich....

They lost and election, then tried to flip electors, then discussed lawsuits, and convoluted laws to disbar him from the presidency, and when in, are trying to throw him out.

Nobody can even articulate what impeachment would be about. No crime committed, no harm done, no scandal, no paperwork violations, nothing. What’s to impeach over? “We don’t like him, and he talks funny”?

Did you not read the article? Why, there are "many improper acts" by which you can charge him. Surely, that should be enough evidence for you; how many times does the MSM have to tell us all that Trump is bad for us, and should be impeached?

"As Peter Beinart pointed out Sunday in The Atlantic, the possibility of Republicans co-operating in removing Trump is dropping even as there’s more evidence emerges that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians.

More evidence, Jeet? Care to name any evidence of "collusion"? (Which isn't a crime, by the way, but no matter.) Pompous progressive morons like Jeet Heer continually talk about evidence of collusion, or state that the Steele dossier is "largely verified" but can never offer any proof of their talking points. If only progressives say something often enough it becomes true through the sheer weight of repetition.

Early in the Obama administration the press advocated that Obama become a dictator like Hugo Chavez, who game himself 18 months to "pass" laws by himself. Now they are strict constitutionalists.

Dont underestimate Democrats (smirk).

Why they got themselves a "black icon" as the poster boy for their party.

Every time a tolerant and compassionate Democrat candidate extols the Democrat Party "working for their fellow man".....

<><>images of John Conyers walking around Congress in his underwear,

<><> his atomic energy penis working at Mach One speed, and,

<><>his wandering Democrat hands working the female staff....all spring to mind.

ROTFLOL.

The only reason democrats want to impeach Trump is because he is president, and from the republican party. If he was from the democratic party, the word “impeachment” would have never come up.

IOW, the only reason for democrats ever mentioning impeachment, is because the president is from the “wrong party”.

They want retribution for the Clinton impeachment. Doesn't matter that Clinton earned it. Doesn't even matter that Obama deserved it, but that the Repubs didn't have the balls to do anything about Obamas abuse of power and gave the magic negro a pass. They just want the rights to point at a Repub and cry "impeached" to deflect from their own lack of soul.

There will be nothing left of their chops by the time the RATS give up licking their chops. All for nothing. President Trump isn’t going anywhere.

Enjoy the WINNING!

They want retribution for the Clinton impeachment.

They should call it even for what they did to Nixon.

But, most of their hate of republicans is being turned against any republican president, whether impeachment is warranted or not.

This drivel about impeachment is coming from the New Republic, about as far-left a publication as you can get on the media spectrum.

Impeaching Trump is about as likely to happen as Hillary becoming the replacement president.

It ain't going to happen. At. All. Ever. Period. End. Of. Story.
