A Wyoming judge ordered the state Friday to return nearly $92,000 seized from a musician during a traffic stop that resulted in no criminal charges or even an arrest, according to the man's attorney.
*snip*
Parhamovich said the officers implied that carrying that much cash was illegal. He lied and said it was a friend's.
Parhamovich said officers then told him that he could leave if he signed a form saying he was giving the $91,800 to the investigative agency for "narcotics law enforcement purposes."

And I suppose a fair answer would be: It's a free country. He should be able to do whatever he wants to with his own money. (The Wyoming police evidently disagreed with that.)
Sessions will not approve of this judges decision. But I approve bigly.
Many if not most musicians are paid in cash after their gig.
They already spent it. Look for a save our local cops body vest fundraiser soon. About $95,000 worth of vests.
The so-called musician had nefarious purposes for that cash. Undoubtedly. BUT, the Wyoming Judge was completely correct in ordering it returned.
Having some knowledge of law enforcement, I can tell you officers are griping today about this judge and will whine like 8th graders for months about any this judge does or says.
Some people do not trust banks.
There is a reason for this. Multiple countries have declared “bank holidays” where you cannot get your money out of the banks. Those “holidays” can stretch out a long way, or allow the government to seize funds.
> Sessions will not approve of this judges decision. <
Sessions seems to be in favor of asset seizure. And I find that to be incomprehensible. How could anyone (except a Stalinist) be in favor of the government seizing property without some sort of court order?
The Supreme Court should have struck all this down years ago.
officers then told him that he could leave if he signed a form saying he was giving the $91,800 to the investigative agency for “narcotics law enforcement purposes.”
We call this “Felony Extortion” and every Public Servant on scene belongs in PRISON for LIFE!!!
This should be an open and shut 4th amendment issue.
It’s exactly the sort of thing the 4th amendment was written to preclude from happening, and yet nobody in government seems to care that it’s blatantly unconstitutional.
It was probably income he got in cash to avoid the taxes. Good for him
Your money or your life!
Cmon jackboot prohibition lickers! Tell us how this is necessary!
The so-called musician had nefarious purposes for that cash. Undoubtedly.
How do you know this? Do you have info about this incident other than what was written in the article?
Your money or be taken to prison and raped.
LEOs take an oath to defend, protect and uphold our Constitution. What the hell ever happened to that? Instead they now blatantly break the law and keep the rewards. Guilty until proven innocent?!
That cash might buy a couple of ‘58 Les Pauls or a mint condition blond ES 335 with double white PAF’s and the original stop-tail setup.
Since the interest rate is .1%, put it into a safe deposit box.
In by #5. That didn’t take long, comrade.
That's all we need is more guilty until proven more guiltier people.
