The Palestinian president on Sunday warned that American recognition of Jerusalem as Israels capital would jeopardize the White Houses nascent Mideast peace efforts.
President Mahmoud Abbas comments came amid a diplomatic push by the Palestinian leader to rally international support against the possible American move later this week. [ ]
American officials say that President Donald Trump may recognize Jerusalem as Israels capital this week as a way to offset his likely decision to delay his campaign promise of moving the U.S. Embassy there.
Israel regards Jerusalem as its capital, with most government functions, including the prime ministers office, Supreme Court and parliament, located in the holy city.
But the international community says the citys status should be determined through peace talks. The Palestinians claim east Jerusalem, captured by Israel in 1967, as their capital.

Abbas can pound sand
Yeah, I’m sure the mice in my house take an issue with me using mouse traps.
I care about that as much as we care about what these inbred Flintstones think about their demands.
Whatever, muslims.
The never-ending conundrum.
Since when has a world sovereign state allowed the "international community" to determine the status and location of its Capital? I can't think of one.
More egregious, there has never, in the history of the world been a loser of a war between adjacent countries having the right to demand establishing their capital in the midst of the territory of the winner of said war.
This is such a childish and outrageous demand, literally irrational and unprecedented in 6000 years of known human history.
That the United States ever even considered this absurd scenario as a solution to the conflict is impossible to understand; beyond human comprehension.
Consider this: Make half of the largest "city" of Gaza or the West Bank the Capital of Israel, and East Jerusalem the Capital of the koranimals.
How would that work out?
If one of the two parties to a conflict is determined to utterly wipe out the other for peace to prevail, in this case I stand with Israel.
Even should it require the total extinction of Islam.
Israel is just the unfortunate first victim of the two legged animals, the dark blot on all humanity.
He's not an elected leader of anything, and there is no such thing as Palestinian, or nation of Palestine. Thanks Olog-hai.
It would jeopardize the peace efforts?!? Oh, no!
Jeopardize the the PEACE efforts, LOL, LOL, LOL!!!!!!!
Yep. So-called Palestine is, and will always be, an honorific terror state dependent on US/UN funding. To defeat the terror against Israel, just cut off the western flow of funds.
The question is: Will DJT cave to Pali threats?
Just do it. History has conclusively proven that trying to negotiate with the arabs is a fools game. Time to stop playing.
Recognize unified Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel, move our embassy there and be done with it.
If the Palestinians want to talk afterwards, fine. But we’re not going to be dicked around anymore. The longer they wait to recognize Israel and declare absolute peace, the more they will lose.
Next up to take off the table: say good-bye to any Palestinian authority in Judea and Samaria.
You must be the president of your local MENSA chapter. Such blazing insight. That is war by other means.
It would be lovely for wars to be won by simply the threat of violence worse than conventional war. International extortion or blackmail. No rational Nation would tolerate or survive that option.
There is no palestinian President! For Heavens sake when will the commie- Nazi media stop trying to palm that damned palestinian lie off on us!? And where is Mossad or IDF to get rid of these bloodthirsty Muslim terrorist murder gangsters. Anyway!!????
Memo to Abbas:
You and yours have been tossed under the bus by your former supporters in the Arab league. Palestine is on it’s own
If this hasn't already been done, why is that?
Israel has been tolerating it since the Yom Kippur War, at least.
The UN wants peace sans Israel. Peace can be more likely sans Palestinians.
Oh, wait, if Israel forced such an issue, they would be condemned by so many UN members. Never mind.
Seriously, I used to hang around with people of the MENSA persuasion. It became tedious. They just aren't bright enough to provoke thought over the long run.
Luckily, we have Free Republic.
Really?! It would be so unusual for them to behave that way.
Oh they have given back, just not any GOOD thing.
Since the Palestinian idea of compromise is to delay the massacre of old Jews in Israel by a few months, rather than killing them all right away, I would suggest that we shouldn’t give a rat’s ass about negotiating with these people, or about what they think about anything.
“all” Jews, not “old” Jews.
