THINKING OUT OF THE BOX
"A new idea is first condemned as ridiculous, and then dismissed as trivial, until finally it becomes what everybody knows." - William James
One of the great war films of all time was made in the '50's, "Away All Boats", starring Jeff Chandler. It chronicles the adventures of a fictional APA (Amphibious Assault Ship, forerunner of today's LHA'a), USS BELINDA, fighting its way across the Pacific. The ship's skipper, Captain Jebediah Hawkes, is a seasoned veteran, a good guy, but not liked by the crew. They don't understand many of his methods and think he's aloof. In fact, his methods are genuinely innovative, and ultimately every one of his strategies saves the ship from disaster.
Then comes the Battle of Okinawa. BELINDA is struck by Kamikaze's. Many sailors are killed and the ship is dead in the water, no propulsion, with large gaping holes below the water-line. Captain Hawkes is mortally wounded and unconscious. The crew must figure out what to do on their own. They start to argue; one says we should do this, the other says, you're crazy, we must do that. Meanwhile, more Kamikaze's are headed their way.
Captain Hawkes hears the arguing through an open porthole in his stateroom, and with his last ounce of strength drags himself off the bed, to the bridge. He cries out to the startled officers with his last breath: "The children lead the mother, the children lead the mother!" He collapses and dies. The crew tries to figure out what he meant, and then they realize..."The children lead the mother!" Captain Hawkes was telling them to lower the landing craft into the water and have them tow the ship to safe waters! They quickly did this and saved the ship!
Captain Hawkes was at first shunned by the crew because they couldn't understand his novel way of doing business. Today we'd call him an "out-of-the-box thinker." We should always be on the lookout for new and better ways of doing things. Much of humanity's progress is a result of people who were not satisfied with the status quo and found novel and better ways to improve life for everyone.
God Bless & Stay Great!

Howdy, radu!
Hope you and the kittehs had a good day today! Ours was about the same. Dulcie is very confused and last time that happened, she had a UTI. Of course, it happens on the weekend. It sure worries me, though.

Howdy, LUV!
We had another pretty day here with highs in the low 60s. Sure would be nice if this could stick around! LOL
Went to see Clara but she was zonked out. They said she’d been asleep most of the day and was pretty incoherent when they woke her up for lunch.
I ran a few errands after I left, came home to feed the cats and us, then went outside to walk around under that BRIGHT moon.
Sorry to hear Dulcie hasn’t had a good day. I hope it doesn’t turn out to be another UTI. Not a good thing for someone her age and in the condition she’s in. :-(

Lordy, what you described from Clara sounds like Dulcie has been for about 3 days. I keep telling people she doesn’t have dementia, but she is very different than she had been.
I hope it’s NOT something we’re doing wrong. I can’t help but worry!
Glad you had pretty weather today! I guess you’d better enjoy it while you can!

I doubt Clara’s and Dulcie’s situations are anything close to the same. And I also doubt it’s anything you’re doing wrong. It seems that once they become bed-ridden, they just do little down-slides once in a while - - probably because they aren’t active like they once were.
With Clara now, it’s simply a matter of her winding down as she nears that 101st birthday this month. She’s waaaaaaay ahead of Dulcie in that regard.
Yes, we’re enjoying this nice weather while it lasts. Tuesday will get here too soon to suit us. LOL

It is about 3 miles from here.
It’s a small pond next to a gorgeous house. We are in the country here, and we very much love it.
I am so lucky to live out here.
Our home is very modest, but it is cozy and warm and it sits on almost 5 acres.

It looks like a gorgeous area y’all live in.
I know what you mean about living in the country. We love it too. No way I could go back to living in town again after living here.

Well, OU won the Big 12 title yesterday over TCU 41-17. Nice weather for a walk at the lake. Supposed to get cold next week.

Bedridden causes things not to work correctly. Getting my Mom to drink was like pulling teeth. Find out what Dulcie’s favorite thing is to drink...hopefully she will drink lots of it to keep her kidneys working.
Tang was a favorite, and the last few months it was root beer. The decision of what to drink had to be her choice because no matter what I suggested, she said no. When I asked what she DID want, she told me to choose.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.
