Washington (CNN) - President Donald Trump, who often brought up the death of Kate Steinle during his campaign, tweeted Thursday night that the acquittal of the undocumented immigrant who shot her was a "disgraceful verdict."
"No wonder the people of our Country are so angry with Illegal Immigration," the President tweeted hours after a jury acquitted Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, who had been deported five times before the killing of Steinle in 2015.

Trump often cited Steinle's death on a San Francisco pier during his presidential run as an example of the dangers of sanctuary cities.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions condemned San Francisco's sanctuary city policy in the wake of a not-guilty verdict.
Sessions has been critical of sanctuary cities during his tenure as attorney general, and several cities have pursed legal action against the Department of Justice in response.

Even the little that did fly with the jury — that Zarate was a careless cannon who wasn’t even covered by RKBA being an illegal alien — is enough to condemn the “system” that allowed him to be there.
Donald Trump is masterfully pinching the left between pillar and post here. You can’t wink at this thing no matter what angle you come at it from. Whether he should have been convicted of a murder or whether he simply shouldn’t have been allowed to be there.
Sick and tired of this sentiment. It is impossible for many factors, first and foremost the security of our country. If it takes a civil war to reign in a renegade state so be it but giving a star away is absurd.
Were you in the courtroom? Did you hear the testimony? Are you sure the prosecution proved his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt?
As a lawyer, I don't always agree with jury verdicts, but I always respect them. The idea that the Government could lock someone up without presenting its evidence in open court to 12 citizens, scares me much more than an occasional quirky acquittal.
One news station said several immigrants were on the jury. I was assuming they were legal, but now giving it a second thought...who knows. Maybe they took the adage “jury of your peers” literally.

Do your homework. 70% of the counties are red. Most of the US military is CA based. Most of the country’s produce is grown in CA. CA’s economy is bigger than most of the countries on the planet.
