A succession plan appears to be in place after a year of a strained relationship between President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, according to reports.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo is in line to take over as the nation's top diplomat "within the next several weeks," The New York Times says, citing senior White House officials.

I was pretty happy to see Tillerson nominated to that post, but I really couldn’t understand why someone in his position would even want the job.

Yah. Great balls of fire. Consider the fact that the state dept was the heart of the swamp. Article says high turnover, which is GREAT, but who is being hired? Patriots? Then the patriots are being ostracized by the swamplings?

The one disturbing part of this story is that Sen. Tom Cotton from Arkansas is supposed to be named to replace Mike Pompeo at the CIA, with Pompeo moving over to the Secretary of State post.

Doesn't the GOP have enough trouble with the U.S. Senate that it doesn't need to be moving people around like this?

This also suggests to me that Cotton is being named partly because a sitting U.S. Senator is the only nominee who could ever be confirmed by the Senate right now.

Other than political appointees and I think people who do passports, State has been under a pretty strict hiring freeze since January.
