A day after being fired by NBC, former Today host Matt Lauer on Thursday broke his silence on the mounting sexual misconduct allegations against him saying some of the accusations are untrue but that he is truly sorry for the pain he has inflicted.
There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions, he said in a statement. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry.
As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC.
...
I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly, he continued. Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching and Im committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full time job.
...
The entire statement was read aloud on Thursdays Today show, where Savannah Guthrie was once again joined by Hoda Kotb, who also filled in for Lauer on Wednesday.

Yep. He’s truly sorry he got caught.
$25M a year and the idiot couldnt even keep his pants on in the office.
:-)
” I am truly sorry I got caught!”
I no longer make $28M a year. I am truly sorry about that.
Do you think his behavior is cause to cancel his contract?
Matt Lauer to Bill O’Reilly during an interview about 2 months ago:
“Think about those .... women and what they did. They came forward and filed complaints against the biggest star at the network they worked at. Think of how intimidating that must have been, how nerve-racking that must have been. Doesn’t that tell you how strongly they felt about the way they were treated?
Do I think that his employer was justified in firing him because he was assaulting co-workers? Yes. I think firing is appropriate.
Do I think that his employer is trying to save money by firing a very expensive employee based on being "Shocked! Shocked!" to find that gambling sexual assault is common in the workplace? Possibly.
That’s it. It is all better now. See, I’m remorseful and totally sorry that I am a skuzzy s.o.b.
Flick!!!
Go commiserate with Mark Halperin, Charlie Rose, Glenn Thrush...
As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC.
And ALL of that EFFING Money I’ve “left behind” too!
NBC sounds very, very complicit here. It sounds as if he had his own little kingdom and an intentionally isolated office, and by design cheated at work and on the road because he was technically still married and didn’t carry on overt affairs out on the town in NYC or the Hamptons.
Just like Jimmy Saville at the BBC.
Nobody does projection better than a liberal Dim.
If he was so sorry why did he do all the nasty stuff to start with.
'...That I was caught.'
Matt....Who are you kidding dude...You’re just p***** that you got outed “publically”
“-remorse-
All that damn money left on the contract is down the drain”
Some part of me thinks that the network can’t be too sorry to see him go. All that money they are saving can be spent elsewhere. I bet they were happy to have an excuse to get rid of that jerk.
>>He will be back sooner or later.<<
I think you are correct...as the once and future host of the Today show, after a miraculous sex pervert “cure.”
